All Music Guide - MacKenzie Wilson
Punk rawkers AFI exude another powerful disposition on their fifth album, The Art of Drowning. Issued on Dexter Holland's Nitro Records, AFI's quick and haughty, spiraling guitar riffs and crashing percussion make for another mishmash for single-fisted anthems for punk revivalists and enigmatic pop kids raging against the machine. Nothing short of Pennywise, D Generation, and Powerman 5000, AFI is rowdy with their old-school-inspired rants like "Ever and a Day" and "Of Greetings and Goodbyes." Frontman Davey Havok casts a rough demeanor, but certainly not anything intimidating because punk rock became friendly after the war of early-'90s grunge. The snarl and sweat are...

    The Best Cd Ever

This is by far the best afi cd they have ever put out. Being the fifth cd that afi had put out they were definitely in their prime when they wrote classic afi songs like Days of The Phoenix, Lost Souls, and The Despair Faction. The upbeat, hardcore melodies of this cd on songs such as Sacrifice Theory and Catch a Hot One are sure to pleases all punk fans. On this cd however you also get to see a more emotional side to the band on songs like Six To Eight and Morningstar. All in all if you want the greatest cd ever then look no further.

    Moderate CD

This cd starts out great with the lost souls but after that has ok songs that kind of sound alike. But at song 8 it starts rockin!! Then the 14 song is ok for an ending but not that good. It's worth the money, but it could be better.

    Rauckus and Melodic - Wonderful!

This album makes you want to put your first in the air AND hum simultaneously. This band has an amazing sound - great energy, great melodies, and the songs work together to create a great listening experience. I go to a lot of ''punk'' shows around Seattle area so I was interested when I saw these guys labelled punk / goth / hardcore. They really are an amalgam of all the most interesting efforts in music today. But bottom line, they just make great music. In the words of Alfred lord Tennyson / I held it truth, with him who sings / To one clear harp in divers tones, / That men may rise on stepping-stones / Of their dead selves to higher things. -- Let's hear it for blank nail polish.

Woa, I was blown away by this CD.

Man, this Cd is awesome. I'm a new AFI fan and this album really impressed me. I can't wait to hear the others but in the meantime I'm gonna have a blast jammin' to this Cd. I recommend you listen to Sacrifice Theory first, I think it's the best.

    Sofa King Cool

Well, this is the new AFI cd. But hey! It's a great cd. It's a little slower and not as heavy as Black Sails, but its great. This cd is great and has a lot of promise. The new gothic edge AFI has taken on is one for the better. Enjoy this cd or die. C'est Super Cool!!!
