A totally absorbing and harrowing crime thriller with psychological interest, ala P.D. James or Ruth Rendell. Deserves the claim page-turner, as the suspense builds and the foreshadowing deepens around Rachel, the heroine. Nothing can be trusted, by her or the reader--not the glamorous Ivy, who befriends the lonely Rachel, not the sylvan idyll of Ivy's family at the farm. A great book for rooting for the good guys and fearing the bad guys, with no guarantees. And, as a bonus, good solid three-dimensional characters, including a charming cop. Very British, very literate, very smart. Cost me some hours of sleep.

    Highly recommend!

I read a lot of mysteries but had never read one by this author before. I enjoyed this one so much, I've ordered two more of her books. The book was well-plotted and the characterization was very good. Not being able to predict the ending is always a plus for me, so that added to my enjoyment. A thoroughly enjoyable read.

    Drowning in Peace

    (poem)

All i see is endless blue.
and sunlight far above.
I hear no voices, yet my favorite song plays in my head.
again and again.
i'm drowning in peace. Without the noise.
Without my friends. Begging me to stay alive.
Without Mason watching silently near me.
Without a cop doing CPR to try and save me.
Let me drown in silence, and i will live.
A peaceful after-life.
That's all i ever wanted Mason.
I shall see you in my peace-filled after life.
Farewell.
(this is to my loveing ex-boyfriend. I hope you understand.)
