Editorial Reviews

Threads Magazine
If you love fabric, you'll love fabric collage. It's an inspiring quilting technique that allows you to express your creativity. Forget about traditional quilting rules! You'll experiment boldly with color, design, and fabric.

Step-by-step instructions show you a variety of surface techniques including free motion stitching, soft-edge applique, innovative closures, and more. You can also apply the techniques to vest, jackets, collars, cuffs, and wall hangings.

Library Journal
Eichorn argues that anyone with access to a sewing machine that will accommodate free-motion sewing can learn creative fabric collage techniques. Fabric collage combines sewing, quilting, machine appliqu , and embroidery to create a unique textile piece attached to a background fabric. When washed and dried in a home washing machine/dryer, this one-of-a-kind collage blooms into a fabric that can be used as a focal point in vests, coats, jackets, etc. In this beautifully illustrated manual, Eichorn walks the reader step by step through choosing fabrics, finding design inspiration, preparing the fabrics, creating the collage, and incorporating it into garments. She pays particular attention to quality finishing techniques, including lining fabric collage garments, choosing appropriate closures, and adding tassels, prairie-point edgings, and shisha mirrors. An excellent choice for public libraries and textile collections. Copyright 2000 Cahners Business Information.\

Fun, practical, beautiful, and one-of-a-kind wearable art.

I first saw this book when our daughter brought it to me from the public library, she had gotten it for herself, so shared it with me, as we have similar interests in textile arts.
It was exactly what I was thinking about for a personal project. Being a commission artist by profession, I seem to always be making what other people want.
I know if I made a garment using these techniques for myself, I would recieve orders, the fun thing is each one would be different. A must, to keep my interest peaked.
Everything is clearly explained, this author is a good comunicator. The photo's are very clear, and the description of each step is concise. I am inspired!! Kudos!!

    Sewing Machine Art

Using the sewing machine "as an art tool", as Rosemary says, can expand a sewer's horizons-which is the purpose of this book. The author encourages the reader to be imaginative, creative and resourceful.
