Overview

Based on the novel by British author Diana Wynne Jones, HOWLS MOVING CASTLE, Hayao Miyazaki brings to life a fantastical time in 19th century Europe, when science and magic defined the popular zeitgeist. Theres a foppish wizard named Howl, a pesky witch from the wastelands, an anthropomorphic chimney fire and a young girl who carries a most unusual curse. And, of course, theres the moving castlea towering, omnipresent structure that dominates the landscape.

A generous collection of concept sketches, fully rendered character and background drawings, paintings and cell images, THE ART OF HOWLS MOVING CASTLE brings the movie into your library. Along with the stunning visuals, the book also presents interviews and comments with the production staff, including key points straight from the director.

I have nothing but praise for this excellent art book. To see the processes of bringing this magnificent film to life is quite interesting and just pure magic. Included is concept art, backgrounds, interviews with the crew about what they did and how they went about it, among many other things. Any fan of Miyazaki's work is sure to love this.
