Every element that goes into the garden has meaning, along with its careful arrangement, and its use of natural and unobtrusive materials (like bamboo). Walls, fences, and paths provide security, beauty, and boundaries that separate and frame various areas. Boulders, stones, and gravel contrast with smooth, flowing ponds and rushing waterfalls. No detail goes unexplained--from adding koi and water plants to setting up viewing stations and putting up a teahouse. It will be a place of peace, restfulness, and emotional refreshment. 128 pages (all in color), 8 1/2 x 11.

    a detailed photo book

a really nice picture book that illustrates many of the details in the japanese style garden. includes an extensive plant list. does not include as many technical drawings and how-to diagrams as 'a japanese touch for your garden'. which only detracts from the book if you require such information. otherwise, the author's narrative descriptions are informative, and give detailed info to go along with the colored photos. this book gives good background information on design elements such as, plants to use, stones and rocks, water elements, structures, ornaments, fences, etc. i like to flip through the pages and fantasize about what could happen in my backyard! a keeper.
