Editorial Reviews

Gretchen Garner
If McNulty's text seems overfamiliar and tiresomely earnest (it enjoins again that we all be more careful stewards of the environment), this doesn't mean that the text isn't valid, but just that it isn't the reason for recommending this book. Certainly, McNulty does no harm to Heinemann's lovely landscape photographs, but it is these pictures that make the book. Shooting mainly in the West, where he lives, Heinemann works with long lenses for a compressed spatial effect. His greatest gift is as an old-fashioned colorist, coaxing beautiful harmonies from familiar wilderness scenes. His best efforts mix warm and cool hues (often in reflections) in rather abstract, formal designs. The book, with its large colorplates, is splendidly produced, although the picture editing could have been more rigorous.
From Barnes & Noble
Through its stunning color photography and lyrical prose, this book reveals the complexity, richness, and diversity of America's nature amid the familiarity of the everyday world. Each scene is one of extraordinary beauty, as subtle as a winding path through the woods, as dramatic as the canyons of the Southwest, as quiet as the snow on a Washington mountain peak, as close as our own backyards. Heinemmann's photography captures the "hidden" intricacies of nature, whether it be a breathtaking vista of the northern California coastline or a close-up of dew on fallen leaves. In his text, McNulty, a poet and conservationist, celebrates the astonishing details of nature so often missed and the value of taking the time to stop, absorb, and reflect upon nature's gifts. The book concludes with Heinemann's notes on techniques and equipment used in his photography. Contains 96 full-color plates. 13 1/2" x 11".

    Beautiful, colorful photography

This book has fabulous, colorful photographs of various nature scenes. As an artist, I use the book for inspiration for paintings and drawings. It would make a great 'coffee table' book or gift book.

The most beautiful collection of nature photos I have ever seen.

I am an artist and bought this book for inspiration. The scenic nature photos are compelling and artistically excellent. I LOVE to just sit and page through this book over and over again.
