•Take lunchtime adventures to rouse your spirit: a bookstore, a flower shop, or a park

•Pick one ordinary object each day and take pictures every time you see it: coffee mugs, shoes, office plants

•Get up an hour early or stay up an hour later and devote the time to your creative work. Schedule it in like any other mandatory appointment or meeting

•Collect doodles from Post-Its or notebooks and reassemble them in a sketchbook

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
Instead of putting in time at work until something more interesting comes along, Pierre, who created The Artist in the Workplace zine, encourages readers to bring their creativity to work. Step one: list the ways in which the job provides positives in one's life; then, stop complaining and gossiping. To fill that void, Pierre recommends activities like going on lunchtime adventures. Budding artists, as well as their not-as-creative counterparts, will find this book fun and uplifting.

    Fantastic pick-me-up

I purchased this book on a whim, but it did not take me long to discover the value of this book as an inspiring and motivational tool for anyone looking to appreciate their own potential for happiness and creativity, no matter the environment.

I am certainly eager (to say the least) about reading Summer Pierre's new book.

    Fabulous Book!

As I walked through the bookstore, this title caught my eye. Upon closer inspection, I realized this was just the book I needed to help me sort out my life in my 9 to 5 world where I am truly a creative person stuck in a non-creative job and world! This book was EXTREMELY helpful because it gave me exercises to complete to help me sort through the mess in my head. It was laid out in a simple and concise way - perfect for those of us with attention span issues. I would read a few pages, participate in a few of the exercises and then put the book down - deep in thought about what I had just absorbed from the words I had just read. Now I have a list of To Dos to help pull me out of the doldrums of working my 9 to 5 job. After reading this book, I now feel as though I have a plan and a method to free my creative spirit. Wonderful book! Well worth the money spent and the time it took to read it!

Remembering the "job you have to get by" is "your job."

I read this book in a matter of hours. The language is so easy to understand and the humor keeps you interested through each page. The pictures are awesome too. This book uses interesting and totally attainable ways to enjoy your 9-5 in a way some may never have tried before. As a creative person myself, it's hard to recognize the fact that the "job that pays my bills" and the "job of being an artist" are essentially both work- and that I can't just keep hating on my 9-5 because it does PAY MY BILLS.
