Though the assassination of the Great Emancipator is an extremely important and much written about topic in American history, this superbly written title featuring wonderful photos is the definitive read on the subject for the teenage audience. The author nimbly recounts the actions of that fateful night at Ford’s Theatre and provides both the political context and compelling background information.

Gr 5-8-These titles have striking full-color covers, a clear and readable design, and substantive texts that provide solid information about each leader's life and brutal death. There are archival photos and reproductions that were once part of newspaper headlines, not distant history. Discussions of the fates of the assassins, the accusations of conspiracy, and even a serviceable, clinical color diagram of the Lorraine Motel where James Earl Ray (or someone) assassinated Dr. King are included. Still, one has to wonder about a series whose focal point is the act of murder itself. Standard biographies or stand-alone titles like Rebecca C.
