more from this reviewer

The cover: I hate Elena but I love Nina Dobrev and Katherine,

    The cover:

I hate Elena but I love Nina Dobrev and Katherine, which means, when I look at this cover, I say to myself that this is Katherine and not Elena, or else I’ll dislike the cover. Just a point of view. Anyways, I love all TVD: Stefan’s Diaries’ covers, for some reason, I’m a huge fan of The Vampire Diaries font style *____*.

    The storyline:

I got used to L. J.’s writing style. When reading her books, I embrace myself for a very slow paced beginning, a somehow intriguing middle and a very captivating end. I wish she would change that, but, well, I still love her books!

(p.s: I haven’t read neither The Vampire Diaries nor her new trilogy, The Hunters, books. I’ve heard mostly negative things about them but I’m going to read it anyway because I need to have my own opinion and I also need to read where my favorite TV show came from Smile).

    What I loved:

The title perfectly fits the story!
The Prologue and the Epilogue are very good. One of the best things about L. J.’s writing style.
The non-stop fighting between Damon and Stefan is crazy good. I can see why they act like that now in 2012. They’ve been thru a lot.
Cora, the female protagonist, is amazing. I loved everything about her.
I liked how every now and then, we get to have a glimpse of Katherine. I really like her character because she’s unique and mysterious.
The ending was breathtaking, as usual, and now I’m going to start the sequel immediately!

    What I disliked:

If there was one thing I would change about the book (all of the books in the series actually), it would be the pacing at first. It always gets boring that I wish I could stop reading it all at once. What keeps me reading is knowing that the best is yet to come.
    The characters:

Stefan is sweet and nice but too naïve. I used to dislike him before reading his Diaries, but now, I actually respect him. He’s been trying his best at everything but for some reason, he always fails miserably :s.

Damon is the impulsive, seductive and arrogant brother. Sometimes he gets on my nerves, the other times he’s just bad charming. Just imagine Ian Somerhalder reading his sentences and acting him and you’ll know what I mean Winking smile.

Cora is Violet’s sister from the previous book, The Ripper. She is very courageous and amazingly understanding. She kept the Salvatore brothers united and organized. A good friend to them.

Samuel is definitely Klaus <3. I don’t hate him at all, in fact, I’m liking him even more. He’s rich, mysterious, very well positioned, a blond vampire and Katherine’s running from him… Does that remind you of anything?! Yep! I’m like 75% sure he’s Klaus.

Henry is Samuel’s younger brother. He’s impulsive and dead at the end of the book, which sparks the anger of Samuel. But it makes me wonder, if Samuel is Klaus, then who is Henry? Could he be the mysteriously dead younger brother?

Violet was human at first, but now she’s a hungry and immoral vampire. She was turned by Samuel and he keeps her around like a pet and she likes it.

James is a new character introduced in this book. He sells witchy stuff to anyone who pays. He helps Damon, Stefan and Cora thru the story and has a very good since of logic.

    Conclusion:

This is definitely a favorite book of mine. It has action, friendship, family, horror and vampires!

If you love the TV show, I really do recommend this one, but you’ll have to start with the first book, Origins, first or you’ll be in the unknown in this one Smile.

    haha

you call this crap scary... HAHAHAHA wheres the gore the blood the lungs being ripped out of his body? ill give you a good example and maybe it ll help to make your next story better. the setting is the forest.. there are monsters with long bloodstained claws and big teeth which are also bloodstained. the main characters are colin (me) andrew, and bill. so here goes...

we were running through the forest, monsters chasing us. sheer torture this was... sheer torture. i was scared as he*ll in the inside but tried not to show it to my friends andrew and bill. one had caught up with us now chasing andrew down and scratching him across the chest several times. his green shirt was completely red with blood. the monster then ripped apart his throat blood squirting everywhere as two more monsters teared apart his legs. blood everywhere now the ground that used to be brown... red now. andrews esophugus was on the ground covered in blood. his heart had also been removed from his body. after about 20 minutes the monsters left leaving andrews bone, heart, 1 of his lungs a little of his skin coated red in blood and part of his esophugus.

so thats my story and i hope it will help you with your next part on your story.

p.s. im known as the master of gore...

p.p.s. if anyone wants me to continue then tell me on this book! and i hope you liked it... and if i do continue i can make it even more gory/creepy... yes it is possible...

Not My Favorite in the Series...

I really like this series more than the original books LJ Smith wrote. I loved the cliffhanger at the end and that witches are getting more involved. I kind of thought Stefan was acting like a pansy though & sometimes I just wish he would shut up about Katherine already. If I was that broody, I would have taken off my ring and went for a nice walk in the sun. It seems odd to me that through all of it, Stefan never contemplates suicide.

Anyway, if not for the rambling angst, I probably would have given this 4 stars. Maybe Lexi or someone exciting will pop up in the next book...

    CHAPTER SEVEN - A PLAN

Lets check our position, shall we?
Okay, I'm locked in a padded room with some insane cannibal in an underground asylum guarded by something out of my nightmares. Not the best place to be.
But I can't throw it all away now. I had to keep my hopes up and try to find out where the inmates have been disappearing to. But first things first, how do I get out of this place?
I took one good look around; metal door, padded walls, insane kid, mattress, air vent-
Wait. Air vent? I had to take another look, but sure enough, there it was, and as if expecting me, the cover was open.
But then again, how do I get up to it? I'm just under six feet, but the vent had to be fifteen feet up! Then I remembered the ripped padding in the wall. Ding! Genious!
I made my way over to the wall and gripped the padding where it had been cut open. I then proceeded to shove my feet into the ripped out areas and climb.
I was halfway there when I felt a cold hand grip my ankle. I looked down. It was the red headed cannibal. I felt my grip begin to fail as he yanked on my leg, trying to pull me down. I struggled a moment and was able to slam my foot down, kicking him square in the nose and stunning him long enough for me to get out of reach. I gripped the cold metal frame of the vent and pulled myself up. I took one look back at the cell amd then crawled dn the shaft. I passed by other rooms, seeing nothing that I hadn't expected. But the sound of wet, ripping flesh made me not even want to look into one of the rooms.
I found one my way to the end of the ventilation shaft and dropped down into the room. Luckily it was one of the supply rooms. I made sure te doors were locked and stripped down to my underwear and then got into one of the doctor's uniforms. I threw the prisoner's clothes back up into the shaft andexited the supply room. So far so good. Now onto the-
"Warning to all security personel," The comm system blared through the halls, making me cringe. "One of our top priority prisoners who was last seen in the Ratway has escaped. Keep on the watch for any suspicious activity."
What had I done wrong? Had the inmate ratted me out? Had the guards been preforming one of their routine cell checks and notice that I was missing. Either way, I needed to get out of here before I get caught.
I walked hurriedly towards the elevator. I pressed the up button and a message panned acorss the electric headboard, reading "Due to current safety risks, this access route has been locked down." Great.
I heard shouting coming from behind me and turned to see a pair of me armed with light assault rifles and bulletproof armor approaching. I cringed in fear at first but then remembered that I needed to play it cool.
And success! They took one look at me, turned, and headed down an adjacent hallway.
I noticed an exit sign out if the corner of my eye and turned. It was the entrance to an emergency stairwell. I pushed the door open ad began up the steps, two at a time. I was halfway up the third landing when I felt a hand come down on my shoulder from behind. I turned and was face to face with the last thing I had wanted to see at the time.
The cannibal.
