Overview

Marking the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, The Atlantic's special commemorative edition, featuring an introduction by President Barack Obama, showcases some of the most important iconic stories from the magazine's archives--with contributions from some of America's most important writers, including Mark Twain, Henry James, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Frederick Douglass, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Louisa May Alcott.
Through reporting, essays, fiction, and poetry, The Atlantic chronicled the war firsthand--from the country's deepening divisions in the years leading up to the conflict, to the horrors of the battlefield, to the reshaping of society after the war's conclusion. Now this edition captures all of that--and with contemporary essays by Ta-Nehisi Coates and Jeffrey Goldberg, along with memorable images from the National Portrait Gallery, this rich collection is perfect for anyone interested in the dramatic story of America's most transformative moment.

A rich resource -- the fact that the articles were original to the Civil War era made it especially valuable.

I am a Civil War/History buff. It is always interesting for me to read "contemporary" commentary. I am happy that The Atlantic published this and you made it available for the Nook

Had to purchase a hard copy because the e-file on this issue was not available on the nook for pc's or anything else other than the nook itself

I have Nook for PC & Nook iPad, it is not accessible on either. There is no warning of this fact. I am very disappointed with b&n for selling a limited ebook with warning buyers.

I purchased the Special Commemorative Issue primarily for The Post War section. I also have it on my Nook. My only disappointment is the selection Barack Obama to write the introduction to the issue. He has done for the country just the opposite of that which President Lincoln accomplished. This is hypocracy at its best.
