The Australian English Course is a two-level course for adult and young adults who want to learn general English for a range of social and transactional purposes. Level 1 is for post-beginners, people who have learned some English before. Level 2 is at pre-intermediate level and may be used after Level 1 or as a free standing course on its own.The course has been developed specifically for the Australian context and has been piloted in Australia and New Zealand. It is also suitable for use by people studying elsewhere, and who are going to visit or study in these countries. Key features: • flexible design enables teachers to adapt the course to the needs of a particular group of learners • communication tasks — pairwork, information gap and role play — help students to develop fluency in using English • learning focus' tasks encourage learners to develop their learning strategies • grammar focus sections promote the learning of structures through a variety of tasks • language review sections at the end of each unit help students to monitor their own progress • the course includes authentic reading texts and listening material from a range of Australian sources • out of class' tasks in each unit help students to apply what they have learnt
