Overview

If you ain’t living on the edge, you’re taking up too much room.

The rose-colored illusion of Madison Shellmound’s girlish crush on biker Ford Illuminati is stomped into smithereens by his crude, perverse father Cropper, Bare Bones club President.  Fearing Ford will kill Cropper if he finds out, Madison flees town, becoming an upstanding cardiology nurse.

Madison and Ford have an ill-fated, star-crossed love that will last their lifetimes.  Ford is a lifer in a different sort of enterprise, the gritty full-throttle club of guns, blood, and allegiance to his brothers.

Twelve years and several tours of SEAL duty later, Ford is thrust back into Madison’s arms on the worst day of his life.  Madison’s prospect brother Speed has screwed up big-time and owes the club his life.  She offers herself to Cropper as a sacrificial lamb to save Speed.

But how long until the fiery, full-on outlaw Ford discovers that the woman he loves was treated like a degraded slave by his own father?  Well, meet the new boss.  He’s not the same as the old boss.

I must admit I haven't read that many MC books, I am drawn to them because that portray a culture that is
so far from me that it could be, and is a totally different world. But that is the beauty of reading that we can
be taken to places we would never go and meet people we would never usually meet.
Madison garners your sympathy from the beginning, living the way she does and gabbing been bought up
the way she was but "One thing my mother’s neglect, although I didn’t even recognize it as such until many
years later, had not done to me was to drown me in self-pity. No, I was tough as nails, with a hardened box
turtle’s shell to the barbs of the outside world. No one can hurt you if you don’t feel anything for them, right?”
Yet even with this she still struggles with her self worth and does throughout the story, a tough front but
hurt inside and always lacking that idea that she is worthy to be loved.
Ford at the start just seems to be subservient to his dad, the head of the club, but as we see Ford grow
he becomes more and draws out from his fathers shadow to become very much his own person. Always in
the back of his mind is Madison, the one that got away. And you know that his love is strong, stronger than
the other bonds except maybe that to the club, not his dad but the club.
Cropper, Fords's dad has to be mentioned because he is the villian, and a true villian he is “Cropper
sauntered forward, long gorilla arms swaying. Cropper did resemble an ape, so the ape hangers on his
Super Glide were apropos. His greying hairline was so low he looked like he’d gotten into the stupid line twice"
not only looking like one but being one.
There are a lot of secondary characters and they provide a good backdrop and flesh out the story to make it real.
This I was an exciting foray into a new world that held me, and kept me reading until the end.  This is the
start of a series I believe but there is a HEA which I was grateful for because both Madison and Ford
    deserved that.

Madison Shellmound fell in love with Ford Illuminati when she was a teen ager. Ever since they were young, you can already feel the chemistry and the tension that is simmering between them whenever they are in the room together. They managed to keep it platonic, until the pool incident, when they finally decided to cross THAT line. But her hopes of an HEA with him came crushing down when his perverted father got her hands on her, she did what she does best – run away. What came good with this was her making her dreams come true. She wanted to be a nurse since then, and she became one.

Twelve years later, they had once again crossed paths, and the chemistry just erupted. It was one of the worst day in his life, and Madison was there to comfort him. Finally they were about to have their HEA, I can feel it, I wanted them both, DESPERATELY, to finally achieve it, until her brother screwed up big time, and owes the club his life. And this is where it all began. You have this feeling of wanting to close the book, wanting to shout for everything to just stop, wanting everything to freeze, to rewind to where it went wrong just to correct it? Because this part became a nightmare, and I must say, for her to stomach all this – SPEED is VERY LUCKY to have her as a sister.

I wanted for her to tell Ford about what his father is doing to her! I knew she just wanted to stop Ford from doing someone unforgivable to his father – but heck, what Cropper was doing to her was pretty much unforgivable. It was horrible! No human being should be treated as that! And yes, he really deserve what he got in the end (I’m really saying this without remorse).  By this point, I was already losing hope of Ford and Madison having their HEA.

Madison ran, hid – and Ford, well, he did what was expected of him to finally do once he found out what has been happening when he was not around. It took some time, a lot of healing, and a lot of realizations before they found their way back into each other’s arms. Every single thing that has been done to Madison, it has all been redeemed when they finally had their HEA.

It’s not your ordinary fairy tale, love story. This story is not for the faint of heart. If you want that sweet, swoon-type of romantic novel, then this is not for you. Get ready to harden your senses, toughen up your hearts and fall so much harder.
