Overview

With her refreshingly intimate, imaginative and thorough approach to notable people of the past, Rebecca Hazell brings together the stories of some of the most exceptional young people in the history of the world. Many of these children influenced subsequent generations with their inventiveness, their vision and their perseverance. Others combined qualities such as kindness and generosity with immense personal courage. Heroic Children tells stories of children who have fought and overcome terrible physical disabilities and social prejudices, and gives inspiring accounts of children remaining optimistic and true to their ideals, even when faced with severe suffering and hardship very early in their young lives. Compellingly written and magnificently illustrated, Heroic Children offers young people of today an exhilarating way of understanding what it takes to find and follow your path and to live your life in a way that makes a difference.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Wendy Pollock-Gilson
We all need heroes, and in this biographical collection there are twelve inspirational stores of children who against tremendous odds achieved greatness. There are heroes and heroines to appeal to everyone, including Ann Frank, Louis IX, Alexander Graham Bell and Pocahontas. Sadako Sasaki's story of trying to make two thousand paper cranes to help cure her of leukemia is touching and thought-provoking. The stories are each six or seven pages long, making it a perfect read for bedtime or in a classroom. The full two page spread illustrations are colorful and have charming detailing along the edges. Encourage children to make a difference in today's world, whether it is through kindness, invention or determination with these true stores.
