Children's LiteratureA spin-off of the Batman franchise, this is a variant on a diary for boys with materials attached to the spiral binding in a zippered plastic bag. What you get is a batch of magic markers, pens, a pair of plastic scissors, and a three-wheeled gadget with bat designs which works on the cuneiform seal principle--and will require an ink pad for use. The book includes stickers and pages to enter one's "profile," fingerprint and hair samples, photos, drawings, and information on one's home, friends, and neighborhood. Aside from teaching a kid how to skulk through his neighborhood and gather pertinent data on the inhabitants thereof--parents may judge the advisability of this activity--the book's only really creative element consists of several pages devoted to very basic coding. And of course, the whole is decorated with Batman images. 2006, Scholastic, Ages 4 to 8.
