Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Sheilah Egan
After a short introduction, author Ford presents over 300 questions with detailed answers gathered over her years of teaching a wide range of beading techniques, designing sculptural beadwork, repairing beaded jewelry, and making glass beads. She expresses her thanks to her students for "letting me know what you wanted/needed to learn." Because the book is broken into very specific chapters, it is very easy to use, and the extensive index adds even more possibilities for finding the answer one is seeking quickly. The chapter headings are as follows: "Getting Started," "All About Beads," "Findings," "Organizing Tricks and Tools," "Stringing Basics," "Other Stringing Techniques," "Working with Wire," "Off-Loom Weaving with Beads," "On-Loom Weaving with Beads," "Crocheting with Beads," "Other Fiber Techniques," and "Repairs and Alterations." These chapters cover everything from selecting the right materials to correcting mistakes made during the creation of a piece. Morris sprinkles helpful tips and hints in boxes with a light orange background, which makes them easy to spot. Her writing style is just as if she were standing next to you helping you craft a project—easy and personable. The illustrations are extremely clear and enhance understanding the instructions. The advice and technical information will be priceless to anyone working with beads on almost any level. Even for beginners, this book of answers will guide them to a beading experience that Morris describes when she writes "Just a few minutes of working with your beads, even if you're only organizing them, can cleanse your mind of prior thoughts (what was it that I was worrying about?) and refresh your outlook, like aform of meditation." Back matter includes a rich glossary and numerous resources (books, websites, magazines, bead shops and suppliers, and a listing of National Bead Shows). The compact size, 4½ by 6½ inches, makes it nice to keep with beading supplies for quick reference. Reviewer: Sheilah Egan

I have been beading for a long time but haven't done peyote stitch for years. I thought this book for my NOOKcolor would cover a lot of ground if ever I were away from my "bead book library" and needed help. It covers a little bit of everything.Well, we are out RVing and I brought a lovely project to work on during our trip. Sure enough, twenty minutes into the project I got lost. I remembered with joy (and relief) that I had downloaded this book. Within five minutes I was back on track! Any bead question I can think of is covered! Hooray!

Liked this book. Was very helpful for a beginning beader and should be useful one who has been doing this for a while. As an e-book it is useful and handy when ever you have a question pop in mind. Highly recommend.

Loved it!! A great little book with terrific answers to all of my beading quandries...and I really like the illustrations too. Sophisticated enough for an experienced beader, but still accessible to beginners like me.

The Beading Answer Book is on my work table as I write this. It is a great reference for those questions that come up as you are planning a beading project right through to when you are finishing it. There are illustrations scattered where necessary and the writing style is casual and very easy to read. Great reference source.

I am new to the world of beading, and find this book to be very helpful as far as the different types of stitching. There is also a lot of info re: types of beads and the different materials and tools used. To me, that was a little tedious to get through, but overall, this is a good go-to book.
