"The Beatles on Apple Records" tells the stories behind the entire Beatles catalog on Apple Records from "Hey Jude" and "The White Album" through "Anthology" and "Beatles 1." The book opens with John and Paul's visit to New York in May, 1968, to promote the Beatles home-grown business venture, Apple Corps. After covering the rise and fall and triumphant return of Apple, the book moves on to the Beatles records released by Apple in America, providing complete songwriting, session and chart information and showing images of all picture sleeves, album covers, labels, ads and promotional posters and displays, all in full color. There are three chapters on the January, 1969 sessions that eventually evolved into the "Let It Be" album and film. These chapters analyze and clarify this confusing phase of Beatles history and review the music recorded during and records released from these sessions. The book also covers the annual Christmas records issued by the group's fan club. The book has over 800 images (color and original black & white) throughout its 310 pages.

I happened along a hardcover version of The Beatles Solo on Apple. Bought it on the spot. When I found out that Mr. Spizer had written not one but two books I ordered the book you see before you now. I learned things about the Beatles recordings of singles and albums I didn't know before. Which for me, a huge Beatles fan{know-it-all some would say} was enlightening. For example there are a dozen pages in the book that flesh out everything you'd want to know about the numbers stamped on the front cover of the "White Album". Research that helps one determine where your copy was likely pressed and when. Whether it is a first pressing or not. Those few pages alone are worth the price of this coffee table quality book to me. Then you learn that "Her Majesty" the little throwaway track at the end of side two of the "Abbey Road" album actually was supposed to fit between John's two compositions {Mean Mr. Mustard and Polythene Pam} originally. Or take the newer version of the Yellow Submarine Songbook released 1999. If you read and go back and listen to the CD again you'll find that the songs are remastered ten years before the 2009 remasters, and for me are as good if not better than the 2009 versions. The vocals are clearer and placed to the front of the mix. If you see a copy of this book somewhere grab it up. They are out of stock as of present on this website.

The Beatles' records on their own Apple label are some of their best recordings. In particular, I was tremendously impressed with a review of 'The White Album', which is the very best Beatles album of all time! There are also great reviews on 'Abbey Road', 'Let It Be', 'Yellow Submarine', and even 'The Beatles 1'. All in all, it does not get any better than this one. Bruce Spizer continues to do a remarkable job.
