Overview

The Beatles Swan Song is the sixth and final installment in Bruce Spizer's critically accliamined books on the Beatles American records. It tells the fascinating stories behind the records released by companies that had the rights to only a limited number of Beatles recordings. These labels included Swan, United Artists, Decca, MGM, Atco and Polydor, each trying to exploit Beatlemania to the fullest, often milking a cash cow even when they had no legitimate cow to milk. The book also covers the singles and albums released by Capitol Records in the 70s and 80s, including theme albums such as "Rock 'N' Roll Music" and "Love Songs," as well as "The Beatles At The Hollywood Bowl," "Rarities" ...

    A great book!!!

Finally Bruce Spizer gets it right! I have never been a fan of Mr. Spizer¿s books. While most Beatle fans go crazy for everything he has written I just don¿t get him. My complaint was always in the pedestrian way in which he writes. To me what he lacks is great storytelling and the ability to hold the reader spellbound. Because of this, his books have always suffered from boring and uninteresting facts, which to my mind have been made entertaining in previous books written on the exact same subject. (THE BEATLES FOREVER By Nicholas Schaffer and THE BEATLES `64 A HARD DAY¿S NIGHT IN AMERICA By A.J.S.RAYL easily come to mind.) In short, he never broke any new ground. Until now!!!! This book actually covers Beatle recordings that have NOT been exhausted in other books. This is NEW territory. The Beatles Sheridan tapes are now given the proper research and respect that they deserve! Pete Best is actually treated with some dignity. While I still think that Mr.Spizer would benefit from some writing classes (he is still a poor man¿s Hunter Davies or Richard DiLello) this time out he should be commended for attempting to tell a side of the Beatles story that is long overdue!
