Clarke introduces us to four intriguing characters who will propel the reader into a provocative world filled with sophisticated naughtiness. Nontraditional in its presentation, The Beautiful People follows a close group of friends who love to travel, meeting up in a different city every other month for a weekend of exploration, partying, and a much-needed break from the daily grind of their careers. From the city of New Orleans, this installment acquaints us with a high-end tailor with a disdain for the common man, a fashion photographer riding a narcotic seesaw, an accountant with a penchant for flirting and flings, and an haute entrepreneur who is struggling with secret desires of her own. The Beautiful People subtly pushes moral boundaries and challenges preconceived notions of perfection.

    Sheer Escapist Fun!

This short novel is, just as the title declares it to be, about “beautiful people” - attractive young men and women, rich, professionally successful and single, great looking and much desired, exceedingly smart, snarky and even snooty. It's great for a quick read if you are bored with your day and looking for some harmless escapist fun – you certainly won't find a single boring moment in this book.

I loved the exquisite writing, especially the sartorial tone adopted by the writer, Cheril N. Clarke, when writing about the bold and the beautiful. I also loved the way the writer brings New Orleans alive in this book, capturing the thrills and joy of the city, putting it in context of the horrors witnessed less than a decade ago because of the hurricane Katrina. We vicariously experience the joy of walking the crowded sidewalks of the busy and happening city along with our favorite characters, sampling its several delights, visiting its splendid night clubs, indulging in lots of fun, and a bit of naughtiness!

Helping us along are some really well developed characters, the four friends - the sexy entrepreneur Vanessa, suave, rich and happily gay accountant Colin, the incredibly cute (but with a secret) Yen and the arrogant, control freak designer Donovan. The details of each character is very nicely fleshed out, complete with little quirks, subtle hints and nudges.

A fine effort by the writer, and I'm already looking for more from her. She's definitely a talent to watch out for.

The Beauty of New Orleans never seemed this provocative!  Author

The Beauty of New Orleans never seemed this provocative!
Author Cheril N. Clarke is simply brilliant in the first short story of her collection “The Beautiful People: New Orleans.” This tale has it all: Emotions, Parties, Challenges and even Moral Boundaries are pushed to the limits of what the imagination can conjure. All four of the characters are developed perfectly, in an engaging manner told from a POV perspective that allows the reader to relate to their personalities and unique lifestyles. Not an easy task to accomplish by an author, yet Clarke does it the ease of a smooth martini.
My next vacation will definitely have to be to New Orleans, even though I felt that I have already visited after reading this story. The descriptiveness is far and away some of the best I have read as of late.  It is filled with depth and vivid imagery that will place you in the center of all the action. Total read time for me was about three hours, which I managed to put down over the weekend. It was fun, thought provoking and left a smile on my face that turn sad when it came to an end. Can’t wait to get my hands on the next book in the collection and recommend to everyone.
    5 Stars.

    Fun Story!

These were two good novellas that are quick and easy to read. In these short pages you learn quite a bit about the characters and you get a nice trip to New Orleans and Las Vegas at the same time. It¿s an excellent way to spend a couple of hours. The author really makes you feel as if you are along for the ride. I was a bit out of my preferred genre in reading these stories (I¿m more of a suspense/mystery reader), but they were well- written and filled with quite a bit of action. For short novellas they do pack a lot of story in these pages, but I would have liked to see them last a bit longer. The next stop is New York and I¿m sure the group will have another intriguing journey. This is erotic fiction at its best. FTC Disclosure: The author provided me with copies of these books to review. This did not influence my thoughts and opinions in any way. All opinions expressed are my own.
