Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
This novel is the final installment in the "Westmark" series, and it will leave readers of the series thoroughly satisfied. A plot to overthrow Queen Agusta, known as the Beggar Queen Mickle, plunges the kingdom of Westmark into upheaval. A battle ensues among the followers of the banished Cabbarus (those loyal to the Queen), supporters of Florian, and Justin's men. Theo, the Queen's advisor and her fiancé, must decide what action he will take. Theo remembers the bloody battles of the not-to-distant past and is not eager to repeat them. Ultimately, he is left with no choice as the city erupts into conflict. Alexander masterfully portrays the inner conflicts that war presents. His many characters are well-developed and complex. The plot is intricate and full of action and although the book can be read by itself, the previous two books do provide some helpful background knowledge. 2002 (orig. 1984), Firebird/Penguin Putnam,

    Bloody Brilliant!

This is an excellent book for all ages, and I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for an enthralling read. If you enjoy reading Lord of the Rings, this is for you. It has action, a touch of romance, and most of all, characters who touch the inner depths of your soul. The intricate layout and sequences are well thoughtout and the characters are portrayed beautifuly, as Lloyd Alexander delves deep into each ones personality and each ones personal strife and struggles.

    This book RULEZ!!

I have read The Pyrdain Chronicles and the Westmark series, and even though the endings are a bit sad, I really fell in love with all the books. I definitely reccomend it to EVERYBODY!!
