Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
This annual compendium of incisive, timely, and often provocative analysis of contemporary political events delivers once again. Covering the period of June 2005 through May 2006, this fifth in the series is an entertaining and enlightening collection of essays by such authors, reporters, and scholars as Walter Mosley, Sean Wilentz, Francis Fukuyama, Seymour Hersh, Janet Malcolm, and James Q. Wilson. Issues such as the war in Iraq, the confirmation hearing of Supreme Court nominee John Roberts, well-honed pork-barrel politics, the political battle over science, cultural cleavage, and the misdeeds of the Bush White House era are addressed with energy and clarity. Evgenia Peretz is superb on the Crawford, TX, White House, as is Mark Danner on "the forever war" against terrorism. One doesn't have to be a political junkie to profit from this collection, but it helps. This book belongs on the bookshelf of any library serving readers who claim to take American politics seriously. Recommended for all libraries.-Stephen K. Shaw, Northwest Nazarene Univ., Nampa, ID Copyright 2006 Reed Business Information.
