The Best of Culture Club [Disky]

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Jose Promis
This compilation almost stands as the most complete collection of Culture Club material. However, the collections which include their last hit, 1986's "Move Away," do not include any of the singles for better or for worse from their 1984 album Waking Up With the House on Fire. This collection does include those singles, but excludes "Move Away." With that fact in mind, this set sums up their best material from 1982 to 1984, including all their hits from that period and several key album tracks although a few dubious ones, such as "Changing Every Day," should have been left off. Not much in the way of liner notes or photographs, this collection doesn't feature any of Boy George's solo material, but does include one rarity: "The Dream" from the film Electric Dreams. Also included are "The War Song" and "Mistake No. 3," their two U.S. singles from Waking Up With the House on Fire the album which pretty much signaled their demise. Other British hits are included, such as "White Boy," "I'm Afraid of Me," "The Medal Song," and the irresistibly funky "The Dive," which were never U.S. hits or included on any of their other hits packages. This collection would have been the ultimate Culture Club hits package had it included "Move Away" and "Love Is Love," and, despite the inclusion of some forgotten hits, doesn't stand up to At Worst...The Best of Boy George and Culture Club.
