The Best of Eroica Trio

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Scott Paulin
When the Eroica Trio first emerged into the limelight in the mid-1990s, their glamorous poses aroused as much suspicion as interest. This, of course, was proven to be a red herring by the sheer excellence of their half-dozen CD releases to date, ranging from the high classicism of Beethoven's Triple Concerto to the Latin crossover of their Pasión album. Drawing broadly from this catalogue, the present compilation features a good number of lyrical bonbons -- such as Albinoni's Adagio, Brahms's Lullaby, and Rachmaninoff's Vocalise, all in special arrangements by members of the trio -- alongside excerpts from some of the major works in the repertoire.
Among the latter, the lively rhythms and soulful melodies of Dvorák's "Dumky" Trio are a particularly good fit for this ensemble's winning personality. From Baroque trio sonatas on down to Paul Schoenfeld's recent Café Music and the tangos of Astor Piazzolla, the Eroica Trio have left no era of music untouched, and they sound thoroughly at home in all of it, whether melding seamlessly in ensemble or shining individually in their solo moments. The Best of Eroica Trio is enjoyable through and through, and their steady artistic growth inspires the confidence that this talented ensemble's "best" is yet to come.
