Overview

Take a journey through the most charming places in France, from Provence, a land exalted by poets and painters to the silent expanses of the Camargue, from the imposing castles of the Loire Valley to the impenetrable cliffs of Brittany. In the heart of the country, Paris reigns supreme, with its romantic spots and unforgettable monuments.

This wonderful volume presents France's myriad beauties: Paris, Brittany, Castles of Loire, and Provence . Who could imagine a world without Paris, the world's most romantic city, the jewel in the crown. Everyone should have a chance to experience this legendary city, home to the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, Arc de Triomphe and Notre Dame Cathedral. To the far northwest is Brittany, a crossroads of history and home to the vibrant seaports that face the ever-changing Atlantic. Journeying south, we reach the verdant Loire valley, with its magnificent chteaux, which still welcome visitors as they once greeted the troubadours who traveled between medieval courts singing ballads of courtly love. The sumptuous chteaux and mansions, surrounded by immense parks and gardens, that line the banks of this magical river reflect the public history of France while hiding deep within their fabled interiors their private histories, by turns romantic and tragic. Our journey ends in Provence, where a traditional way of life remains surprisingly strong. Worldly Saint-Tropez evokes the glamour of the international jet-set, while just a few miles away lie medieval villages with narrow cobbled streets and sleepy squares. Nature lovers will enjoy the soaring cliffs of the Verdon gorges and the countless species of birds that inhabit the marshes of the Carmargue. Nearby, Arles, Orange and Saint-Rmy recall the grandeur of Imperial Rome, while the papal palace at Avignon evokes the mystery of 14th-century intrigue. Embark upon this marvelous journey and encounter France's unrivaled beauty.
