    First in a long-overdue series

This, the first CD of the first Hearts of Space program, is the beginning of a long-overdue series of selected programs reproduced for sale. Previously, only certain ones -- STARFLIGHT ONE and ARABESQUE (the latter only available in cassette), were made available for purchase from HOS. I welcome this move and wish HOS all the success in the world with this project.

    HOS rekindles the magic

The first album from Hearts of Space literally reproduces the first radio performance of what would become the benchmark of (New Age) space music. Even if you weren'\ able to hear the radio shows, this album will transport you to a time when the music was so beautiful, evokative and transcendant that you could only imagine you were either in an altered state of mind or had discovered a primal form of auditory expression. The kind of music that makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up, Hearts of Space captured the truly beautiful of the emerging space music of the late 70's and 80's.
While the genre of New Age has evolved into World music, the early years produced the purest, most innovative recordings of electronic music overlayered with various acoustic instruments. Spanning elements of Celtic, ambient and the best tone poem forms, the Hearts of Space programs launched the careers of many new artists. Peter Buffet, Peter Manau, Bill Douglas, Rich, Roach and Stearns, among them.
Anyone who didn't tape the shows on cassette will welcome these small bytes of reality from that musically exciting era. Subsequent albums (2 and 3)document subsequent years, as the genre evolved and flowered.
The production quality is first rate and the selections span a nice crossection of the ambient-lyrical continuum. The tracks are especially welcome where they are not readily available in extant CD format.
