All Music Guide - Stephen Thomas Erlewine
BMG Special Products' Best of Heavy Metal is a hodgepodge of hard rock and heavy metal cuts culled from a variety of sources, concentrating on the RCA vaults. There's only a handful of true classics, such as Accept's "Balls to the Wall" and Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't Fear the Reaper," on the record, but the entire compilation comes close to capturing the feel of metal circa early '80s, which may be enough for some metalheads on a casual budget.
