Overview

Before her final pop hit in 1975, "What a Difference a Day Makes," and early-'60s forays into country-soul, Little Esther Phillips was known as a gritty R&B belter in the '50s. The 25 tracks on Collectables' The Best of Little Esther were culled from the vaults of Federal, recorded between 1951 and 1953, after her break with the Savoy label. These tracks include background vocal duties by such R&B pioneers as Little Willie Littlefield and members of the Dominoes and the Robins, with the majority of production work credited to her mentor, Johnny Otis.
