Overview

Rhino's Best of the Girl Groups, Vol. 1 collects 18 of the greatest girl group singles, including the Ad Libs' "The Boy From New York City," Betty Everett's "The Shoop Shoop Song (It's In His Kiss)," the Exciters' "He's Got the Power," and Claudine Clark's "Party Lights." The Shangri-Las have no less than three of their singles -- "Leader of the Pack," "Remember (Walking in the Sand)," and "Give Him a Great Big Kiss" -- included here, while two of the Shirelles' finest, "Baby It's You" and "Will You Love Me Tomorrow," and the Chiffons' "He's So Fine" and "One Fine Day" reaffirm why all three acts are among the best girl groups. Most of the style's big hits, such as the Dixie Cups' "Chapel of Love," are featured, but the lesser-known tracks, like the Jaynetts' "Sally, Go Round the Roses," Evie Sands' "I Can't Let Go," and Skeeter Davis' "I Can't Stay Mad at You," keep the collection interesting for more serious fans of girl group pop. A solid, entertaining album, Best of the Girl Groups, Vol. 1 is a must for anyone interested in one of the most distinctive sounds of the '60s.

This is a great collection of songs from some of the most popular girl groups of the 1960's. Artists include the Shangri-Las, Dixie Cups, Chiffons and Shirelles. Songs include ''Leader of the Pack'', ''Chapel of Love'', ''Will You Love Me Tomorrow'' and ''One Fine Day''. This is a terrific album that will prove to be a rewarding listening experience. Perfect if you enjoy music from the 1960's.

This CD collection is filled with 60s girl-group gems! It features the Chiffons (''One Fine Day''/''He's So Fine''), Claudine Clark (''Party Lights'') and one of my personal favorites Skeeter Davis (''I Can't Stay Mad At You''). Part 2 of the set is just as much fun as this 1st part. Any 60s music fan would be thrilled with these care free love songs, delivered by some of the best known female artists!

I agree with all the other reviews that this is a lot of fun to listen to. One song ought to be pointed out is track two, "He's so fine" by the Chiffons, this is the song that George Harrison "borrowed" to create his big hit "My Sweet Lord" and it's great to have it here (and if you have George's album, to compare the two songs).
