Robert McKay might be a werewolf and the clan's Beta but he is counting the days until his Alpha returns from his honeymoon. It seems like from the instant Robert took over, his phone hasn't stopped ringing. Robert has never understood why he was given the classification of Beta and doubts his ability to protect the clan from both inside and out.
Esther Longfellow is a vampire slayer on the track of her largest job ever. Esther found her target briefly once and he was with a guy who definitely wasn't a vampire. Not wanting to go into a mission without all the facts, Esther gets really close to the guy and picks his pocket. It leads to more questions than answers.
Just what Robert needed, a pickpocket but it takes nothing for Robert to get his wallet back. Esther isn't sure why her target is with a werewolf and begins to wonder if her information is accurate. Still, the money being offered is more than Esther can turn away, and she attempts her hit only to hit the man who is working his way into his heart. Robert needs to know a lot more about Esther but time is not on his side when a challenge comes to him. Esther feels the passion that is budding between her and Robert but how will he ever trust her again? To keep the clan healthy and safe, Robert is going to have to prove he is the Beta both to himself and to his clan.
A werewolf feeling his way and a female vampire slayer learn that opposites can be unbreakable. The Beta shows Robert that he was always the best back up an Alpha could have. I could tell that Esther wasn't really sold on this assignment until the money was bumped up to ridiculous levels. I could also tell from the instant that Robert and Esther's paths crossed that something powerful could grow there. I enjoyed watching not only Robert grow into his office but also Esther learn just because something is dark doesn't mean it's bad. The ending proved that anyone could make a new life when love beckons. The Beta follows two people's growth in an erotic and suspense filled adventure.

I've read the other books in the series and this was the only one that went too fast it wasnt believeable! She fell for him way too fast and she was too willing to accept her fate! The book was still a very good read besides that!
