Overview

Rankings & Grades

Picking a college is hard, but we're here to help. The lists at the beginning of this book group 200 schools in a variety of categories. Interested in location, size, or selectivity? Check the lists. Curious about which schools have the best dining, dorms, or local atmosphere? We rank those, too. Cross-compare between the different lists to find the schools that match all of your needs.

Individual School Profiles

Dive into our school-specific sections and find out why those colleges you have your eye on scored well in one category and poor in another. Just like the original College Prowler guidebooks, each school's section is student-written and provides its own unique dialogue to help you discover if the college is right for you.

From the Publisher - Welcome to College Prowler

During the writing of College Prowler's guidebooks, we felt it was critical that our content was unbiased and unaffiliated with any college or university. We think it's important that our readers get honest information and a realistic impression of the student opinions on any campus—that's why if any aspect of a particular school is terrible, we (unlike a campus brochure) intend to publish it. While we do keep an eye out for the occasional extremist—the cheerleader or the cynic—we take pride in letting the students tell it like it is. We strive to create a book that's as representative as possible of each particular campus. Our books cover both the good and the bad, and whether the survey responses point to recurring trends or a variation in opinion, these sentiments are directly and proportionally expressed through our guides.

From theAuthor

When reading our books and looking at our grades, keep in mind that every college is different and that the students who make up each school are not uniform—as a result, it is important to assess schools on a case-by-case basis. Because it's impossible to summarize an entire school with a single number or description, each book provides a dialogue, not a decision, that's made up of different topics and hundreds of student quotes. In the end, we hope that this guide will serve as a valuable tool in your college selection process. Enjoy!

About the Author

College Prowler guidebooks are in the hands of students throughout the entire process of their creation. Because you can't make student-written guides without the students, we have students at each campus who help write, randomly survey their peers, edit, layout, and perform accuracy checks on every book that we publish. From the very beginning, student writers gather the most up-to-date stats, facts, and inside information on their colleges. They fill each section with student quotes and summarize the findings in editorial reviews. In addition, each school receives a collection of letter grades (A through F) that reflect student opinion and help to represent contentment, prominence, or satisfaction for each of our specific categories. Just as in grade school, the higher the mark, the more content, more prominent, or more satisfied the students are with the particular category.

    College Prowler Does It Again!

The fastest growing publisher in the world does it again. I'm a big fan of College Prowler's single-school guidebooks, those are the guides that cover 180+ pages on each school. But when I heard a 'big book' of colleges was released by College Prowler, I was a bit upset that they changed their approach to be like everyone else ... Princeton Review, Fiske Guide. Let's be honest, those big fat books on colleges are so boring ... you can't get a 'real feel' on a college by reading 1-2 pages ... not to mention the information is rarely updated. Well, to my surprise, the 'Big Book of Colleges' by College Prowler puts all of those other guides to shame. It's obvious that College Prowler has a network of thousands of students at each college campus. The information you get in this guide is so 'underground' and 'uncensored' that I wondered how on earth they got access to it. There are 201 schools profiled, 4 pages per school, fresh student testimonials, talking about everything! Guys, Girls, Dorms, Athletics, Academics, The Local Atmosphere, Facilities, even Drugs ... No wonder the Boston Globe called College Prowler the antidote to the Princeton Review Doldrums!

    Great info, great resource

This book is a truly excellent resource for comparing colleges. It's was a big help for someone like me who was looking at several different schools all over the country. Even if I had the money to visit every school personally, I wondered if such short visits would even be enough to let me know what school was the best fit for me. Luckily, I discovered College Prowler. The student surveys in here really give you a good idea of what the individual colleges are like in terms of location, safety, living conditions, dining, and so forth. Highly recommended.
