Overview

A doctor carries a black bag. A soldier hauls his weapon. And the actor carries… the monologue. For any working (or hopeful!) actor, the monologue is the calling card, the audition, and the preview of your talent. In a few brief seconds, your monologue can create an indelible image in the mind of the director and open the doorway to a career.

This collection of new, original monologues allows the actor unique opportunities for expression: some are serious, some are humorous, and many can be performed either humorously or dramatically. None require an introduction, and most are suited for both male and female performers. Your monologue is your vehicle, and you must power it up and steer it with your own personality. The scenes within these pages represent every type of vehicle, from sleek sports cars to vintage jalopies; you may even find a scooter or a skateboard. Enjoy the ride.

Every Actor, from time to time, finds themself in search of that

Every Actor, from time to time, finds themself in search of that well written, yet largely under-used, perfectly timed monologue. One frequently cannot find something that will help them to stand out, and especially not further the Casting Director's boredom through the monotonous onslaught of over performed pieces that can cause instantaneous nausea when the first syllable of the first word is uttered. Having found myself in this very predicament, I have discovered Michael McClendon's "The Big Book of Monologues" to be the best solution to this problem! All of the material in this book is original, and can be played however you decide to play it, be it dramatic, comedic, or a style that is uniquely your own.
Actors, adding this book to your arsenal, WILL take the stress of coming up with that monologue away!
    Break a leg!  ~Polly

Excellent book of original monologues! Many with a twist, very flexible, male/female and can fit a range of ages. Easy to make it your own, which is paramount in a monologue.  You don't want to be trying to
imitate an academy award performance with your 90 seconds in front of a casting director, make it your own!

You'll be going through the whole book, not just to find the perfect monologue, but because it's fun! A definite for the professional actors arsenal!
