"Pepe is a delight!" --RT Book Reviews (4 stars)

"In matters of courage, there is no bigger dog than me!"

P.I. Geri Sullivan and her talking Chihuahua, Pepe, are always hungry to sink their teeth into a new case. So if helping a hapless husband win back his wayward wife means sneaking into a cult of dog-worshippers, porque no?

Inside the believers' rural retreat, Pepe perks up his ears when the charismatic leader pegs him as the next incarnation of the spirit Dogawanda. But the discovery of a body, murdered between mantras, suggests there's more chicanery than channeling going on in this suspicious sect. While wild wolves howl, a killer is on the prowl--and it's up to Geri and her canine compadre to dig up the dirt.

Pepe and Geri suspect a dog-worshipping cult outside of Seattle of causing a misguided woman's demise. Third in a refreshingly funny canine series (after 3Chihuahua Confidential).

This was a fast (maybe 5 hours) read, with a wonderful cast of characters especially Pepe the little Chihuahua who has the biggest heart, smeller and ears in the world, which all helps the main character solve the murders! The actual person doing all the murdering actually surprised me in the end and the case was just incredible considering the wolves gave a marvelous chase! Now I have to wait for the next in the series to be written – which drives me nuts but this series is worth the wait!

I love this series! All three of these books are wonderful. I have read all three, and if there were more, I would read them too! They are a quick read, but they will have you laughing out loud. I even read parts of them to my kids.

    The Big Chihuahaby Waverly Curtis
This is the third book in the Barking Detective mystery series. The first is Dial C for Chihuahua and the second is Chihuahua  Confidential. Gerri, a real estate stager meets Pepe, an abandoned 'purse' dog and on their first day together Gerry discovers that she Pepe can talk and she understands him. They are good medicine for each other, both dumped, she by her husband and he by a Hollywood star. Gerry finds a job with a private detective, Jimmy G. who talks about himself in the first person. The dialogue in these books is a big part of the humor I love. Pepe is a feisty and appealing dog who fancies himself "El Jefe", which I believe means The Boss. He is a big, brave dog in a small body and Gerry can depend on him to protect her.
I recommend reading the three books in order. They each have a different locale and I can see that the characters are developing as the series progresses. There's a murder mystery and the mystery of Gerry's missing sister to solve and a bit of romance and characters who care about each other. You'll care about them, too.
