The Big Tease

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Moira McCormick
This superenergized techno-dance soundtrack fuels THE BIG TEASE, a film which concerns a Scottish hairdresser determined to win top honors in the Platinum Scissors competition in L.A. It's tons of fun, all right, from charged-up clubland fare like Cydonia's "Supernova Heights" and Headrillaz's "Shoeshine," to the Japanese-inflected samba "There Must Be an Angel Playing with My Heart Remix," by Fantastic Plastic Machine, to the wacky remix of Dean Martin and Julie London's "Sway." Standing out amidst the jittering synths and pumping beats is Groove Armada's languorous "At the River," with its irresistible samples of Patti Page's 1957 hit "Old Cape Cod" "If you're fond...

Standing out amidst the jittering synths and pumping beats is Groove Armada's languorous "At the River," with its irresistible samples of Patti Page's 1957 hit "Old Cape Cod" "If you're fond of sand dunes, and salty air…". Then there's Wes Cunningham's sexy, feather-light oddity "Car Wreck," Ruff Driverz's "Dreaming," with its insistent, boinking synths, and Day One's funky little number "Waiting for a Break," about a wannabe comedian. Most exotic cut is Turkish composer and instrumentalist Omar Faruk Tekbilek's Middle Eastern-New Age ramble "Shashkin"; most metamorphosed is a robotic take on the Mamas and the Papas' golden chestnut "California Dreamin'," by High Jinx. THE BIG TEASE soundtrack's producer and compiler, Nellee Hooper, whose previous cinematic effort was WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE'S ROMEO + JULIET, also appears here under the mighty cute pseudonym Dysfunctional Psychedelic Waltons with "All Over My Face."
All Music Guide - Heather Phares
The original soundtrack for The Big Tease features an eclectic mix of music that is almost as unusual as the film itself, which tells the story of a Scottish hairdresser who thinks he has been invited to compete in LA's World Freestyle Hairdressing Championship, only to find out that he was only meant to be a guest at the event. The music is suitably quirky, ranging from Fantastic Plastic Machine's electro-kitschy "There Must Be an Angel" to Omar Faruk Tikbilek's "Shashkin." Tracks by Blondie, Cydonia, High Jinx, Day One, Wes Cunningham, and Dean Martin & Julie London make The Big Tease a distinctive soundtrack.
