Having been born and raised in Deep Haven and enjoying Lake Minnetonka via year long activities, my interest in anything surrounding the lake and it's surroundings is high. I came upon this book by accident and of course picked it up. Ironically, the very first page I turmed to involved a picture of my grandfather's berry farm. I was hooked and headed to the check out. I have now spent many hours with the book, reliving childhood memories and stories of the lake. What a treasure!

When I started reading this book, I didn't know I had an interest in Lake Minnetonka history, but after reading the foreward, the prologue and
epilogue, I was intrigued and ready to peruse this very interesting and enjoyable book. Pictures, photos, maps, copies of documents, information boxes not part of the text - all help make the book readable and easy to understand even for those of us who are not "history buffs." I gained a new perspective of Lake Minnetonka, and the authors of this well written book are to be commended for their thorough and extensive research. "The Big Water" is a beautiful, large coffee table book, and the only complaint I have is I couldn't hold it to read while on my treadmill.

As someone with a lifelong interest in Lake Minnetonka history, I very much enjoyed this informative, entertaining and well-researched book. Liked the inside information about the Gilded Age at the lake and political influence of the wealthy. Great photos, maps and documents I hadn’t seen before were an extra bonus. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.

After having purchased and read a dozen or so books on the history of Lake Minnetonka, I was pleased to learn the background of the stories explained in the Big Waters. It seemed well researched and well written. It is a great addition to the history of Lake Minnetonka and the surounding territory. I highly recomend it.
