Actually its pretty good.

I don't have a weight problem but do I like evaluating weight-loss books. This one grabbed my attention with its attractive cover and the fact that it made the New York Times Bestseller list. My first thought was that it was so popular because it was based on a hit TV show and so it might not necessarily be that good- I was wrong.

The book, while not going in-depth into a lot of weight loss issues as some books, covers the basics VERY well. It has testimonials, makes you examine your reasons for losing weight, discusses a diet and exercise program, and has you calculate your calorie needs- all the info you need presented in a concise format that's easy to read and, well, captivating.

However the best thing the book has going for it is the fact that its downright inspirational. Anybody who is very overweight and has tried to lose for sometime, is going to really appreciate this book- with its many pictures and stories of "successful losers." This, in my opinion, sets this book apart. You can have all the know-how in the world, but unless you can stick with a good weight loss plan over the long haul, its just no good- and this book can definitely help you with that. Also recommend The Sixty-Second Motivator for additional ways to increase your motivation- especially for those readers who have difficulty making healthy lifestyle changes. Good luck!

This book is a waste of money. It is nothing other than a recap of the show. There is no real weight loss plan at all. It is very generic and feels like it was rushed to print.

This Is Fitness Motivation!-says Eric Odera

The first thing that struck me was the colorful pictures in the book.I must say that they are attractive, and they will surely bring your fitness motivation to another level-you see real people who have gone through a transformation, and not some sales gimmick. A source of fitness inspiration for me was when I read Andrea Baptiste's story. She was a personal fitness trainer, and the moment she switched careers to being a pharamceutical rep, she started eating junk foods and then....things started going downsouth!This is a real story, it really humanizes the super fit fitness trainer that you adore at the fitness club.It shows that anyone can gain or lose weight, depending on where they are in their lives. Right before the exercise planning section we learn that before embarking on anything, the participant's had to ' start feeling great about their bodies'-Allelujah! I fell in love with this statement, and it is now a part of my fitness motivation repertoire.I appreciated this piece of advice because, all you need is an ounce of faith and that ' feel good attitude' before things start happening.From my own experience as a fitness professional, I must confess that the people who had the most difficult time exercising were those who didn't feel good about themselves, implying that they had doubt-and unfortunately doubt is the devil's lingua franca.You buy into his stock, and lo! you will definitely experience quarterly losses! NBC is a power house and they definitely flexed their muscles in the way they presented the materials in the book. At the bottom of the pages you have small captions of practical advice, that are helpful such as finding healthy alternatives for chocolate or pizza. In terms of nutrition, hats off to the NBC team.As a fitness professional who has designed dozens of fitness programs I must say that this team is on target. They have intelligent food pointers, and they got my attention when they mentioned that fish is an excellent source of protein and omega 3 fatty acids(I bet you know this!), but I bet you didn't know that farm raised sea food contains many deadly toxins called PCBS,and some even contain traces of mercury(that cause serious inflammation in human cells).They also suggest that you replace meat or poultry with free range or grass fed meat or poultry.When I saw this information I gave them a happy thumbs up!-a sure sign of seriousness. But!, when I saw them recommending fat free salad dressing-I had a problem with this, because its already been established that salad dressings have more toxins than the chemicals used by your local dry cleaners. Overall I highly recommend this book because it will give you the necessary fitness motivation that is necessary for your success. This is a great beginner book for those serious about a diet and exercise program. It is motivating and will encourage one to progress to the goals that they have set for themselves.

Helpful info on diet and exercise

Wow, I must be reading a different book than previous reviewers! I found the info on diet and exercise guidelines to be extremely helpful and fit right into the type of guidance I needed to get me started. I didn't expect to replicate the ranch experience instead, I wanted concrete tips that I could use without having to be tied to some specialized diet plan. This book outlines the recommended number of daily servings of each food group, target number of calories for my weight and goals, etc. It's easy to internalize and I actually am planning out my foods and estimating calories -- something I hadn't originally intended to do. I get some new info every time I refer back to the book. The exercise stuff has also been helpful, as is the info in Jillian's book. And it's working! Seeing results and feeling healthier is an unbelievable experience. This book took my 'I'll start to exercise and sort of watch what I eat' approach and turned it into a 'I feel empowered by having the tools to really exercise and get the food demon under control' goal.

Oh My Loard

Just want to let everyone know that this book is very easy to use. The items and ingredients are very easy to find at your local grocery store. I highly recommend the Not really Fried Rice, and the New Orleans rubbed chicken. That is a weekly dinner at my house. Truly, just try it. Iv'e never had butternut squash, now it's beginning to find it's way in the cart at the store. It might not sound good to you but just try it, you will be surprised!!!! TiaUrban Madison Hgts MI

A biggest loser here

a very good book to get started losing weight and keeping it off. An even as you get more advanced, the programs are modified for your individual fitness level. Free advice: don't limit yourself to one method, but this book is definitely a very good start.

This book is literaly ridiculous. The extent of the weight loss program in this book is contestant testimonials and trainer tips. If you really want to know how the contestants are changing their lives Jillian Michaels' book Winning By Losing is the way to go.

This book is not what it claims. There are motivational stories, but as for actual information, there is hardly any. I agree that for real weight loss advice, Jillian Michael's book Winning By Losing is the much better choice.

If you are interested in what the contestants on the show actually do buy Jillian's book Winning By Losing. This book is only comprised of tips from the contestants. Very dissapointing.

What u make of it

This book is truly what you make of it. The reason most people even buy these books or seek help to lose weight is because they can't do it alone so I think its great to have someone PUSH you and to have that extra motivation

dont expect to lose much weight

When you read this and you think wow i get to eat plenty and will lose weight... while you will lose maybe 1 lb a week it does not have fast results... you have to remember that on the show they are going off this diet and work out 4 to 8 hours a day in the gym and might just lose 4 or 5 lbs a week and they have plenty to lose

This book is a real let down for those of us who are looking for weight loss advice. This book is about a t.v. show not 'The Weight Loss Program to Transform Your Body, Health, and Life'. The recipies are ok, but you can get hundreds of healthy recipies for free on line. Don't waste your money.

I am such a fan of biggest loser I actually bought this book and Jillian Michaels book Winning By Losing. I have to say that both books are different and offer different things. The BL book is fun and gives you a feeling of what life was like on the ranch. I like the tips from all the contestants and hearing their personal stories. As a weight loss program I don't think it is the most comprehensive. Jillian's book is more geared towards that, but the photos of Bob exercising in the BL book are GREAT :-O

Misleading

When I bought this book both the shows trainers were listed on the web as the authors. As it turns out neither one of them wrote the book. I am a fan of The Biggest Loser and I liked reading the stories and tips from the contestants, but the weight loss program is written by some woman who wasn't even involved with the show named Maggie Robinson. The book is misleading for that reason and pretty much just a fluff piece.
