Before Hiro on Heroes, there was Steve Austin - The Six Million Dollar Man. Before Buffy Summers on Buffy The Vampire Slayer, there was Jaime Sommers - The Bionic Woman. Now, television's classic wonder people of the 1970s are back and stronger than ever in - THE BIONIC BOOK: THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN AND THE BIONIC WOMAN RECONSTRUCTED, written by best-selling author Herbie J Pilato (Bewitched Forever, The Kung Fu Book of Caine).

Co-billed as the Cybernetic Compendium To TV's Most Realistic Sci-Fi Superhero Shows, THE BIONIC BOOK is chuck full of commentary culled from Pilato's exclusive interviews with Bionic stars Lee Majors (who played half-superman/half-mechanical marvel Steve Austin), Lindsay Wagner (Jaime Sommers - Steve's female counter-part and one true love), series creator (and science fiction novel icon) Martin Caidin, executive producer Harve Bennett (who would later help to ignite the Star Trek feature film franchise), producer/director Kenneth Johnson (The Incredible Hulk and Alien Nation) and actor Richard Anderson, the latter of whom portrayed Oscar Goldman - Steve and Jaime's stoic but understanding supervisor on both shows (and who has penned the book's foreword).

Much more than a mere TV trivia guide, THE BIONIC BOOK explores in-depth the social, psychological, medical and scientific influence, appeal and message behind two of the most popular and heroic science fiction television programs of all time.

"I don't think anyone ever thought that the novel Cyborg would generate so much activity in the TV world. For the first time the behind the scenes stories of Cyborg, The Six Million Dollar Man, and The Bionic Woman are revealed. Pilato exposes the connection of science fiction author Martin Caidin and the two shows. He talks about the problems of finding the right actors to play the roles, the many directors and writers involved with both shows and there are episode guides for the series and three movies. The author also shows how modern science has used bionic parts to save many lives. One thing unique is that the Six Million Dollar franchise holds a record for being one of the few series to have played on three major networks. For any fan of these series this is a must have book." - Midwest Book Review

Herbie J Pilato's "The Bionic Book" lovingly and skillfully salutes the shows that took America and the world by storm, and turned its stars into global TV icons. Pilato methodically traces "The Six Million Dollar Man's" evolution from novel, to television movie-of-the-week, to full-fledged weekly series, exploring the pitfalls and challenges that Executive Producer Harve Bennett had to hurdle in order to create one of the most beloved and iconic sci-fi series of the 20th Century. Extensive interviews with titular stars Lee Majors and Lindsay Wagner afford us a rare, behind-the-scenes look into what made them tick, their take on their characters, their favorite episodes, and the positive impact they had on millions of impressionable children hungry for clean-cut heroes. Co-stars Richard Anderson, Martin. E. Brooks, and Alan Oppenheimer weigh in with a slew of remarkable anecdotes, as do guest stars such as Monte Markham, Vince Van Patten, Richard Lenz, and John Saxon. Combine this with valuable input from various writers, directors, producers, and stunt people, not to mention an exhaustive episode guide jam-packed with factoids and trivia, and you have THE most authoritative tome in the bionic universe.
