The Bipolar Advantageby Tom Wootton
The Bipolar Advantage is about recognizing all of the aspects of the bipolar condition. Wootton readily admits that "Advantage" is not the typical interpretation of bipolar. Based on his Bipolar in Order Seminar that he has developed over the past two years, it focuses on the positive approach to the bipolar condition. It is about coming to an acceptance of yourself while striving to become a better person. Learning to use Introspection to become aware of who you REALLY are and learning to change your habits in order to accentuate the positive aspects of the bipolar condition while minimizing the negative. Turning bipolar into an advantage is accomplished by creating a vision of who you want to be and putting together a plan to follow that will get you there; as is done by every successful business in the world.
As a successful professional and someone who was misdiagnosed for years, Wootton has personally experienced the good and the bad of this condition. Leading a DBSA group and teaching the Bipolar in Order seminar has put Wootton in touch with the personal stories of many bipolar people and their families. This positive approach with tools and skills for improving life will be of help to everyone, both those with bipolar and those who love and support them.

Shows how having Bipolar is an ad-vantage not dis-advantage. Its a dis-ease but can be made easier to live with. A dis-order made in-order to understand. I really great way to look at a misunderstood illness that can lead down dark roads.
If you are new to the "condition," Tom Wootton's "BIPOLAR ADVANTAGE" will give YOU an advantage in understanding bipolar people. It's also a rollercoaster of a book, full of bipolar "ups and downs."
Tom Wooten gives the reader an up close and personal look at bipolar disorder, a condition he has been dealing with since the age of 9, diagnosis in middle age. It is a very rough illness, now known as a chemical imbalance of the brain. It causes him to feel and act in extreme ways. The whole book is an extreme expression.* This slim volume would be a contribution to knowledge if it contained only the thoughts of one individual with bipolar disorder. Those who suffer from this very difficult condition have a voice in Tom Wooten. Maybe they relate to him. Maybe his story provides support for them.* For those of us not afflicted by mental illness, the book offers a window into the soul. Also serious questions about certain corporate structures and the tendency of many people to avoid seeing the obvious when mental illness is involved.* The book is important because it offers hope: Hope in the form of an idea, and hope in the form of hands-on support. The idea is that there is a very special up side to the mental phenomenon of mania. The hands-on support comes in the form of bipolar in order workshops where people with mania and depression speak out and name the good side of the condition as well as the bad.* Top 10's (hundreds more listed in the book) Disadvantages: loss of control lost friends shame guilt spending sprees confusion no focus reckless behavior suicide bad driving Advantages: starting over reckless behavior all or nothing successful accomplished takes 2-3 to replace us blunt oversexed sense of humor perfect timing* Given the trauma that sufferers of bipolar disorder experience, along with their families, the development of a new way of looking at the situation is very good news.
