Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
"A practical, straightforward book that will be a great help to those who have bipolar illness, as well as their families. I could not recommend this book more highly." —Kay Redfield Jamison, Ph.D., author of An Unquiet Mind
Publishers Weekly - Audio
This intriguing guide to bipolar disorder is well designed and geared toward those suffering from the disorder and their family and friends. Narrator Kris Koscheski delivers the book’s complex information with the utmost professionalism and empathy in this audio edition. He is responsible for making the at times rather complex research sound interesting and comprehendible to listeners. It’s no easy feat, but luckily Koscheski is able to relate the material swiftly and smoothly, without sounding condescending in his approach and tone. The result is a family-friendly self-help guide that takes the stigma out of bipolar disorder and allows it to be approached in a thoughtful manner. A Guilford paperback. (May)

Great practical tips on how to manage Bipolar disorder from a patient's perspective and from the perspective of family members. If more people read this book, they would better under the disorder and perhaps, not unfairly stereotype those with Bipolar Disorder. The worksheets and exercises were also quite helpful. A great book, worth having in your library.

Outstanding book with an excellent format for helping those with Bipolar Disorder, as well as family members and friends, understand the disorder and how to live with it. Because it is in 'layman's terms', it is an easy read and easy to comprehend. This book is a wonderful resource which I will revisit again and has answered many questions regarding BP!

Dr. Miklowitz' well written and straight forward guide to living with bipolar disorder is informative for people with bipolar disorder and their family and loved ones. Mental illness and the mental health care system are confusing and frustrating. Dr. Miklowitz is to be commended for providing helpful and hopeful information without sugar coating the realities of living with bipolar disorder.

I found this book about Bipolar Disorder to be very helpful. I have found it helpful to read as many books as possible about this disorder as my daughter has Bipolar 1. Another new book just released I found inspiring and has given me great hope is a new memoir called "I just want my daughter back - coming to terms with Bipolar 1? by BC Levinson that I found on Amazon.com . Seeing how others cope with bipolar disorder has made a big difference in our journey. It gives hope to those of us walking in these shoes. I actually found the new book through Twitter.com.. you can even chat with the author @BIPOLARSMOM2 . Very nice lady.. Hope this helps Sue

I found the 'Survival Guide' filled with excellent, practical advice for dealing with the daily struggle of living with bipolar disorder. It's an interactive book in which the patient is asked to actively participate in his own treatment program. I think it's indispensible for anyone suffering from bipolar disorder, and probably should also be read by family and friends of the afflicted.
