Angst-ridden young men slathered in eye makeup have had a built-in following in the rock realm for a number of years, but it takes a lot more than that to draw in a wider audience. These Jersey boys have proven they've got the goods -- namely, a soaring sense of drama and an effortless way with a gripping pop hook -- to reach the masses in a big way, and that's never been clearer than on this ambitious, intriguing disc. Unlike many of his peers, singer Gerard Way isn't afraid to make grand gestures, and he calls upon his inner Freddie Mercury with aplomb on songs like the sweeping "Mama" -- on which he and duet partner Liza Minnelli veer from operatic expansiveness to stone-cold-crazy rock furor. Such grandeur pops up frequently in these grooves, from the orchestral glamminess of "The End" -- not the Doors song, but not terribly far away from that classic in spirit -- and the careening title track, which reconciles the band's emo roots with a newfound affinity for Guns N' Roses-styled rock strut. Guitarists Ray Toro and Frank Iero contribute a good bit of the latter attitude, and their increased willingness to kick out the jams adds a surprising depth to sinewy tracks like "Dead!," a welcome change from the unilaterally brooding tone of MCR's earlier offerings. While there's certainly enough soul-searching and darkened-room tone to make old fans smile -- well, at least nod their heads in appreciation -- Waiting for the Black Parade bursts with the sort of questing abandon that proves looking to the past is the last thing on this band's mind.
Rolling Stone - David Fricke
The best mid-Seventies record of 2006, a rabid, ingenious paraphrasing of echoes and kitsch from rock's golden age of bombast.
Entertainment Weekly - Clark Collis
[Grade: A-] Despite referencing chemotherapy, contusions, terrorists, and hell, My Chemical Romance's third CD, The Black Parade, is uplifting, ambitious, and at times riotously enjoyable.
Washington Post - Allison Stewart
"The Black Parade" is a dadaesque assault on the senses, a blitzkrieg of la-la-la choruses, razored hooks and crack musical marksmanship that's flush with strings and pianos.
Los Angeles Times - Ann Powers
My Chemical Romance expresses the next generation's quest by redrawing the boundaries of reality itself.

[Grade: A-] Despite referencing chemotherapy, contusions, terrorists, and hell, My Chemical Romance's third CD, The Black Parade, is uplifting, ambitious, and at times riotously enjoyable.

The Black Parade is the best album from My Chemical Romance. Fro

The Black Parade is the best album from My Chemical Romance. From The End, with its undeniably relatable lyrics, to [Untitled], or Blood, with its incredible hook, and everything in between, The Black Parade is a must for any My Chemical Romance Fan. Other favorite tracks include "Dead!", "Mama", "Disenchanted", and the almost title track, "Welcome to the Black Parade", the ever uplifting song that makes this listener wonder if My Chemical Romance isn't just calling each and every one of their fans to take up arms and fight. If The Black Parade is the soundtrack to that war, this listener will definitely be signing up.

When I grow up, I want to be NOTHING AT ALL!

It makes me smile that the person who makes the rating system for B&N called this cd "death obssessed." More like life obssessed given the actual theme behind this album. Cancer. Lyrics such as "We'll carry on," "I will never bury." Sure there are some downer moments such as the lyrics "If life ain't just a joke, then why are we laughing?" but doesn't every person who goes through such a difficult experience question life? It seems that more of the focus of this album was more based on the types of things that might go through a patients mind. AMAAAAZING album. I used to be in denial of this band, too but trust me they aren't just pop/rock sellouts. Atleast this music has MEANING.

    An Epic New Journey...

I have been an MCR Fan for 5yrs and The Black Parade was a new and epic release that I had never heard anything like before. Gerard's tale of the character "The Patient" set fans off on a journey that was emotional and brilliant. The songs set a new standard to their music. It was emotional for the band to make, to produce something for their fans that they hoped we would love, and we did. This is one of the greater albums produced by MCR because they didn't care, they knew what they wanted as a band to make and they knew that they would possibly lose some fans along the way, but they are a charasmatic band and they know what they have to do to produce great music. This is a wonderful album and everyone should purchase it!

    Amazing

My Chemical Romance was the first band that I ever got into and i am glad i did. When you 1st play The Black Parade, it tells a story in a way. It has all the emotional parts like Cancer and then the fun rocking parts like Mama. In all of there songs i think someone can find one that they relate to or makes you happy for who you are. I found my song as Famous Last Words. The CD was worth every penny and i still listen to it all the time along with their other records. There is a lot of creativity in their music and strongly advise you to just give them a try. I think you will start a new liking for them like i did and i still do.

    Awesomeness!

This is one of my most favorite albums EVER. (and this is my first review of anything, ever, so I don't know if I'm doing it right or not...)

As soon as The End starts playing, you can tell it's going to be something epic. I've never heard anything like it before, and it's amazing. This is one of the only CDs that's ever made me laugh AND cry. It's got some great songs to dance to, but if you really listen to the lyrics, they actually mean something. It tells the story of The Patient and his journey. A couple of the songs were really hard for me to listen to, because my dad died of cancer a little over two weeks after this album was released (which is kind of freaky because in "Dead", the doctor says The Patient has only two weeks to live). Gerard Way's vocals are amazing, and I love how Ray Toro and Frank Iero's guitars work together so perfectly.

    Five stars!

    This band understands me.

I have to admit.. this album is what made me go CRAZY over My Chem. I don't know what it was.. The amazing album theme? Hearing Gerard's voice, Bob's drums, Frank, Mikey, or Ray's guitar? I think it was everything. These boys have put so much effort into getting to where the band is now.

I was a fan of them since their album previous to this; but The Black parade made me realize just how amazing they are, and how much potential this band has. Don't get me wrong, they were amazing before this as well.. but The Black Parade had a slightly different sound to it.

I know the lyrics to all of the songs on this album, and I enjoy rocking out to this everyday. It helps me get through a lot of things. It's an amazing feeling knowing that some band can make you feel understood.. you have to buy this album to know how it feels like.

Hopefully I can meet the whole band (i already met gerard) & thank them for bringing their music into my life. I look up to them as my heroes.

Pick This Up...You Won't Put It Down

There's only one word for this. AMAZING. The entire CD revolves around the life of a cancer patient as he goes through the memories of his life and soon realizes, maybe it's all going to be okay when I go. Tracks like Teenagers, I Don't Love You, Famous Last Words, Dead!, and Disenchanted make you want to plug in your headphones and blast this music as you scream along to it.

My Chemical Romance Has Done It Again

This album is outstanding. To some of their grassroots fans, it is a huge change from their usual array of dark melodies, angry guitar, and harsh vocals that gave them a punk sound. But all fans, old and new, have to agree that this album is unique and enjoyable. The Black Parade begins on a solemn nod to those who dislike the band in the acoustic beginning of "The End" "I'll encourage your smiles, I'll expect you won't cry". The album takes a dark turn at "Mama", a dramatic, operatic tune which includes a cameo by none other than Liza Minelli. Lastly, "Famous Last Words" closes the album with the kind of fierce storytelling of the likes of Queen and The Beatles. To say the least, this punk rock opera is nothing short of epic.

The Black Parade album is the most solid album of the three they have made with great titles on it like "mama" and "teeenagers". My Chemical Romance is a GREAT band out right now. This is a great cd to buy.
