    A Thrilling Swashbuckler

This book will appeal to fans of Sabatini's work as well as those who enjoy lovable pirates, sharp tongued damsels in distress, and a bit of cloak and dagger. The story is well rounded and appealing; one which will capture and keep your attention. It is shorter and more lighthearted than many of Sabatini's works and it is somewhat lacking in the usual clash between protagonist and lady fair (she prefers to direct her disdain elsewhere). Fans of the 1942 movie should note that while the stories have a few similarities, the plots and characters do differ.

A Tale of Treachery, Treasure, and True Love

One of my favorite books, The Black Swan takes you through the jade green waters and tropical islands of the Caribbean into the violent, swashbuckling world of pirates and buccaneers. The heroine Priscilla Harradine is on her way to England after the recent death of her father, accompanied by Major Sands, a devoted but pompous friend of her late father. Just before the ship on which they are sailing casts off, a tall dark stranger bound for Guadeloupe boards. Major Sands resents the dashing Frenchman, especially after learning that he is a former buccaneer. Priscilla however, much to the indignation of the Major who hopes to marry her, is fascinated by Charles de Bernis. She and the mysterious adventurer enjoy each other's company in the short time before he is to be put ashore. But the tranquility of the voyage is shattered when Monsieur de Bernis sights a dark image from his past on the morning horizon. It is the Black Swan, ship of the ruthless pirate who terrorizes the Caribbean, Tom Leach. When Leach and his cutthroats board their ship, de Bernis makes a daring gamble for their lives-but how long can he keep the brutal pirate at bay? The Black Swan is an intriguing, well written book that will keep your attention riveted to its pages. Read it!
