Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Readers will marvel at the amazing world tour presented in this superb resource. Children and adults can find key facts about the people and land of each country in the world in an appealing and easy to use format. Information is provided in concise, well-written sections, accompanied by stunning photographs, maps and charts. Country profiles are found in one-, two-or four-page entries, depending on their size and population. Each country is coded by a color assigned to its continent. In addition to comprehensive country profiles, the book provides topographical maps, political maps, and thematic maps on a host of other pertinent topics. The "How to Use this Book" section helps ensure that readers get the most from their country research. Children will return again and again to this reference for both their educational and personal interests. An asset for both, classroom and home libraries, this book is sure to broaden horizons as it takes readers on their journeys to the different countries of the world. 2001, Blackbirch Press, Pettenati
School Library Journal
Gr 4-6-This visually appealing resource is packed with geographic information presented in a colorful and easy-to-follow fashion. Alphabetically arranged entries for each country include a narrative describing geography, history, ethnic makeup, popular culture, and education, and an "At a Glance" box that gives basic facts such as currency, official name, and population. An illustration of the flag and a variety of charts and diagrams showing such things as population; government; temperature; major religions; and ownership of such items as cars, televisions, phones, computers, etc., are also provided. Quality color photographs illustrate each entry, and a solid index allows easy access to information. Unfortunately, as is the case with any resource of this kind, some of the material is already out-of-date, such as the unit of currency for several European nations, and, most poignantly, the inclusion of the World Trade Center on a map of world landmarks. A good selection of clear maps at the beginning of the volume shows everything from population and topography to biomes and trade winds. These maps, along with the bright and informative graphics, make this volume an asset to any reference collection.-Kathleen Kelly MacMillan, Maryland School for the Deaf, Columbia Copyright 2002 Cahners Business Information.
