I love dystopian novels, and really enjoyed The Blemished. It was a quick and exciting read, it was able to keep my attention from beginning to end. The story was engaging and had a lot of twist and turn that kept me on edge. There were some questions that popped up along the way that made me want to read more. There was plenty of action throughout the story which made sure it never dragged, and some heart wrenching moments that made you feel for some of the characters. The is not just a love triangle but a love square which adds tons of drama to the story. One thing I could not shake the entire time I was reading was how much the book reminded me of the Uglies series, that was kind of distracting. The characters for the most part were pretty well rounded, some of them could have use a little more development. I hope to get to know some of the characters more in the future books. Mina was a great character, she's very strong willed and has a good head on her shoulders. Angela was a meek character that tries to stay under the radar, but she is stronger than she looks when it come to the people she cares about. Daniel is a natural born leader and very loyal to his friends. Sebastian, I couldn't quite figure out his deal through the story, but I hope there is more of him in the next book. Elena is the character I most hope returns in the next books as she seems like a complex character and I want to know more about her. The ending left some open questions that makes me look forward to reading the rest of this series. Overall this was a great dystopian novel and an entertaining read.

By Momma on May 18, 2013 I very much enjoyed reading The Blemished. Dystopian is one of my favorite genres, but this book is so much more than that. There’s a little bit of everything! Good guys, bad guys, action, magic and even a little adventure. The story is well written and not “tired”. The pacing is fantastic! The romance was sweet and not too over the top. The characters were all quite believable and most have a good amount of dimension. I found myself very invested in Mina and her escape. This book is full of surprises and I enjoyed it If you like young adult dystopian so you will you. Later there will be a review for The Vanished, but it made it to my personal TBR list! I can’t wait to read it! I absolutely recommend this book for teens and adults. What does Momma Think? Momma gives The Blemished by Sarah Dalton 4 cookies!

An interesting dystopian read, though it does remind me of the hunger games. I liked the main character. She seemed very well thought out and multifaceted. Good for a debut novel. Curious to read how everything turns out.

Overall well written. The author did a fantastic job describing the society in the novel. I began to be less impressed towards the end of the novel when suddenly the characters become immature which did not align well with the rest of the novel.

To me this book was improbable. Too many questions unanswered. I liked the characters, but the story line didn't hold true for me.

OMG...I can't believe I read a book so fast. I thought I was going to the next chapter and it was the end. What a page turner. I'm really glad there is another installment in the series

English society under the control of the government revolves around genetically engineered humans, free of genetic disorders and bred (in a laboratory) for good looks. Wealthy couples have these genetically "enhanced" trophy children. People whose genes are not manipulated are called "Blemished," and are expected to serve the "GEMs." Blemished girls are sterilised upon reaching age 16. The heroine of this story is a Blemished girl who has a psychic ability. One of her new acquaintances also has an unusual talent, but his gift does nothing to advance the story. Its use debilitates him but never benefits him or the others. The story includes instalove, pages of description of the heroine and her friends running from armed soldiers, and an eye-rolling appearance of the villain at a climactic moment. I can hardly wait to get back to the book I'm reading now. I did not have that feeling about "The Blemished." This book would probably be most appealing to middle school girls.
