The Bliss of Affectionby Robb Boldt
Singer-songwriter Robb Boldt, lately of Los Angeles, breaks out of the typical R&B mold to indulge his pop leanings on his recording debut, THE BLISS OF AFFECTION. The composer of songs for Paula Abdul and fellow relative newcomer Rebekah, Boldt turns in an assured studio peformance and a sound that is neither rock nor R&B but molded by both. One of the best cuts, "Something for My Time," has an easy, steady R&B midtempo built on subtle rock guitar. The opening track, "Blue Day," could easily be a country hit for the likes of, say, Shania Twain, with its happy-I'm-in-love-with-you theme. Although more middle of the road than one would expect, The BLISS OF AFFECTION is nonetheless breezy and highly enjoyable.
