This is a book that I have read many times and have given away numerous copies of. For the romantic it comes through with sentimental colors and for the champion of the underdog it brings a sense of justice. It has drawn my daughter and I together in ways I cannot begin to imagine. Each of us identifying in some way with Valancy. If you want a book that you cannot put down then read this book. Encourage your daughters, moms, aunts, cousins and friends to do the same. You will not regret it and they will thank you for sharing such a great piece of literature. Then share your common interest and likes and dislikes and what you can apply from it to your own lives.

I stumbled upon this book when I was eight and fell in love with Valancy and her life. Twelve years later (with numerous rereadings over those years!) this book is still my favorite of all time, and as an avid book reader, that's a feat. The book is full of romance, and shows how one girl blossoms into an independent woman.
