    Great send-up

From: Times and Record News Review by Bill Humphrey Charm Hope is a health-spa technician and part-time college student. Between making her living painting rich ladies' nails, messaging their legs and trimming their hair, she finds time to be an amateur detective. Dr. Minus, president of Scaffolding State University, is missing. At least Charm thinks she is missing. No one else--including the police--seems to think so. Charm deduces that Dr. Minus, who is also one of Charm's customers at the spa, has been killed when a description appears in the newspaper of a foot found by police. The foot is wearing nail polish and a sandal that Charm recovnizes as Dr. Minus'. When Charm starts to try to convince people that something bad has happened to Dr. Minus, they not only don't believe her, but no oen seems to really mind that the unpopular Dr. Minus is missing. This leads Charm to start her own investigation under the guise of research for a senior project. What follows is both comical and harrowing. Charm learns that not everything at Scaffolding State is as it seems or should be. She is quickly disillusioned by interoffice politics, corruption and outright theft. What she thought to be the hallowed halls of higher edcuation turns out ot be a hotbed of deceit. Ceil Cleveland, the author of 'The Bluebook Solution,' has spent 30 years on university campuses as a faculty and senior administrator. Author of three books, including 'Whatever Happened to Jacy Farrow,' Cleveland also writes for national magazines and is an English professor at New York University... The book is a great send-up of university politics and administration. As a bungling detective, Charm Hope is at the same time comical and vulnerable...

    Outrageous, clever, scarifying--but wise

I read a preview copy and Ceil Cleveland has nailed university life--administrators, faculty, students and even alumni. Mayhem behind the ivy. Funny, but sobering. An intelligent, in fact, learned writer who can also make you hoot. I hope Charm Hope becomes a charming series.
