Editorial Reviews

Library Journal - Library Journal
This is an updated and expanded edition of Hedgecoe's 1994 book of the same title. The original Book of Photography was considered a bible in the field and sold more than 100,000 copies; this version-filled with wonderful examples of both color and black-and-white photography-well surpasses its predecessor, encompassing digital photography and expanding on techniques, tips, and advice on how to see better pictures. In addition to the subjects one would expect to be covered (section titles include "Portraits," "Still Life," "Landscapes," and "Architecture"), Hedgecoe discusses more elusive topics, e.g., "How To Capture Character." The heart of the book is the 148-page section, "How To Take Better Pictures," which touches on every consideration involved in turning an ordinary picture into an exceptional one. If your library has only one book on photography, this should be it. Highly recommended for public and special libraries as well as private collections.-Karen MacMurray, Cape Coral P.L., FL Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.
