Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Paula Rohrlick
This trivia collection poses fifty questions relating to location, ranging from "Where do inventors get their ideas?" to "Where does the biggest reptile live?" Each of the queries has a page to itself, with brightly colored illustrations featuring cartoon green people. The answer is provided on the same page, in several brief sentences, but sources aren't given. "Did you know..." boxes highlight facts and figures. Many of the questions have to do with nature, weather, and geography. Some of them are straightforward, such as "Where are the pyramids?" and "Where does the sun go at night?" Others depend on word play, such as "Where do angels fall?" referring to the Venezuelan waterfall, Angel Falls, and "Where would you find a flying weaver?" about weaverbirds. Some young would-be know-it-alls may enjoy this scattershot approach, but the answers are so short that they may only serve to whet readers' curiosity. Maps, sources, and suggestions for further reading would have been helpful. End materials include "Quick-Quiz Questions," based on the answers given in the book, and there's a glossary of "Tricky Words" as well as an index. This title is part of a series; other volumes are How?, What?, Which?, Who?, and Why? Reviewer: Paula Rohrlick
