    A note from the Author...

This is a handbook that is ALL about Boxers and is the culmination of nearly a year of research, travel, interviews with noted Boxer breeders in Germany and in the United States, talks with Boxer rescues, and the enviable job of playing with a lot of kidney-bean dancing Boxers. The chapters in 'The Boxer Handbook' include: History(there's some very interesting early German history here),The Boxer Today (in both Germany and the U.S., with a discussion of current issues surrounding the white Boxer, cropping and docking), Understanding the Boxer (the benefits and challenges); Selecting a puppy; Adopting an adult Boxer; Preparing home, yard, and family training tips; 'When Good Boxers Behave Badly'; health concerns (includes a special section for the *Silver* Boxer); and activites. A resource section includes contact information, and additional reading. 'The Boxer Handbook' is 200 pages and contains more than 100 photos of Boxers from both Germany and the United States, from multi-titled Boxers to rescues, and from *Silver* Boxers to puppies. The foreword to this book was written by Tracy Hendrickson, president and founder of the American Boxer Rescue Association (ABRA).

    A Very Informative Boxer Handbook!

I greatly enjoyed reading this wonderful book on boxers which is very inclusive about all aspects of boxers and boxer ownership. While presenting this wonderful breed as a great companion & pet, the author also takes an honest look at the boxer's *special qualities* and strongly advises thoughtful examination of one's circumstances & tolerance levels in order that the high energy, personable boxer doesn't end up in a shelter or rescue facility. Her candor, honesty & factual coverage of all aspects of loving and owning a boxer -- from selecting that special puppy, to the health concerns that boxer owners have & how best to ensure that your boxer has a long, healthy & quality life as your lifelong companion is a great addition to any boxer owner's library!! A recommended book for anyone contemplating getting a boxer, or for anyone who owns or is owned by a boxer!!

    A Great Boxer Book

This book was recently nominated for a Maxwell Award by the Dog Writers Association of America for best pet book written in 2000. And no wonder! I found it to be a great guide for new Boxer owners, a good reference for experienced pet owners, and a nice collectible for Boxer fanciers. The book covers all aspects of Boxer care,a candid look at the Boxer's character and idiosyncracies, some basic training tips, and even a full chapter on adopting the adult Boxer. The full-color photos really make the book. Nice job!
