Overview

The first in a series of books from foster carer Casey Watson.‘We’re hungry,’ his brother cried. ‘We’re hungry, Justin. Please find us some food.’Justin was five years old; his brothers two and three. Their mother, a heroin addict, had left them alone again. Later that day, after trying to burn down the family home, Justin was taken into care.Justin was taken into care at the age of five after deliberately burning down his family home. Six years on, after 20 failed placements, Justin arrives at Casey’s home. Casey and her husband Mike are specialist foster carers. They practice a new style of foster care that focuses on modifying the behaviour of profoundly damaged children. They are Justin’s last hope, and it quickly becomes clear that they are facing a big challenge.Try as they might to make him welcome, he seems determined to strip his life of all the comforts they bring him, violently lashing out at schoolmates and family and throwing any affection they offer him back in their faces. After a childhood filled with hurt and rejection, Justin simply doesn’t want to know. But, as it soon emerges, this is only the tip of a chilling iceberg.A visit to Justin’s mother on Boxing Day reveals that there are some very dark underlying problems that Justin has never spoken about. As the full picture becomes clearer, and the horrific truth of Justin’s early life is revealed, Casey and her family finally start to understand the pain he has suffered…Includes a sample chapter of Crying for Help.

Casey Watson is a specialist foster carer. She has been working in this field for six years after giving up her position as a behaviour manager for a local school. Casey is married with two grown-up children and three grandchildren. The name Casey Watson is a pseudonym. This is Casey’s first book. Her next title is called Crying for Help.

    Very, very good.

Heart-breaking in parts, but also warm and human. I loved this book, even when it is not one that I would normally pick up.

Good story about the horrible things people put their kids through & the great people that help the children no matter how difficult it may be.

    amazing, highly recommended

It is impossible to understand how this child lived prior to his foster care placement. The Watson family is amazing their care and nurturing of this precious boy. The book is very hard to put down, and you will want to read all of the true stories by the author.

    Heat brea,

Such a heart breaker!!!!!! I cried, but I also couldn't put it down. After you read it, it feels like you've been slapped awake and your eyes finally open to the child abuse all over the world.

    Excellent heartbreaking read!

This book will really open your eyes to child abuse in America. Such a sad awakening, but one you can't put down. The only upside is knowing the wonderful work Casey and Mike are doing for the benefit of children like this. Ask yourself, could or even more so WOULD you?

    Excellent and heartbreaking true story

Casey Watson has written a true story that is so heartbreaking to know it is true, but yet so heartwarming for the love Justin received while in Casey's care. It is truly a book you will find yourself lost in and need to read to the end.

    Awesome, heart-breaking story

Casey is an excellent writer. The stories she shares are heart-breaking and uplifting. Thank God for families like Casey's, who devote their lives to helping innocent children caught up in nightmares due to no fault of theirs. I can't wait to read her next story. I have read 4 books by Casey and can't wait for the next.

    Excellent read

Much better than I expected. I could not put it down and plan on reading more of Casey's work. The book is an eye opener to the horrors that unfortunately shatter the lives of young children.
