Title: The Brim Reaper - The Style and Error Mystery 3 Author: Diane Vallere Published: 12-3-2013 Publisher: Polyester Press Pages: 272 Genre: Mystery, Thrillers & Suspense Sub Genre: Crafts & Hobbies; Amateur Sleuths; Cozy Mystery; Women Sleuths ISBN: 97809849654342 ASIN: B00H03A1MW Reviewer: DelAnne Reviewed For: NetGalley My Rating: 5 Stars . Samantha Kidd is in-between jobs again and has promised to help her friend, Eddie Adams, put together an exhibit of vintage Hollywood costumes at the Ribbons Museum of Art. When those being loaned to the museum by legendary film actress Hedy London arrive, the boxes are empty, save one, which contains a green Fedora with a knife through it. Following a near tragic accident where Samantha was nearly crushed by a falling light fixture they decide to call it a day. When Eddy fails to return from dropping off the keys Samantha goes looking for him and finds him next to a bubble wrapped body with the fedora next to it. When the police begin to look for Eddy as a person of a lot of interest Samantha puts on her detective cap and gets to work. Her love interest, Nick offers her a job helping him prepare for the opening of his new shoe store, which Samantha agrees to if they keep it strictly business. Which gets blurred more than once. Dante also makes an appearance. As always Diane Vallerre delivers a fashion mystery that will have you looking at your wardrobe differently. The action begins on the opening page and continues to build from there. The only problem I had with the story was Samantha's attitude toward her job with Nick. She was childish and nonprofessional on many occasions and girlfriend or not she should have been fired. On the other hand a seriously want to know Eddy better and have him a friend. He steals the show as he stands front and center in The Brim Reaper. This may be the third book in the series, but a new reader to the series will have no problem enjoying it as a stand-alone read. With characters that are realistic even it=f a few are a bit eccentric (what can you expect from the fashion and artistic personality. With plenty of twist and turns along the way I found it a great read. I give it a 5 out of 5 star rating.
The Brim Reaper was written by Diane Vallere. Although this was the 3rd book in the series, and I have not read the first 2, I didn't have any trouble sorting people out right away. Some series are written so that you have to read them in order, I was glad to find one that wasn't. I think that Ms Vallere has found her place in the cozy mystery home. I liked being taken behind the scenes in the retail business.
