Meet the Author

My name is Carol Marrs Phipps and I am a teacher turned author. I was born in Missouri, grew up mostly in Illinois and currently reside in Illinois. My book, Elf Killers, which I wrote with my co-author and fantastic husband, Tom Phipps, was released by Hellfire Publishing on July 15. It is available as both an ebook and paperback and is now currently Indie Publishedby Tom and me. We now also have the first four books in our Epic Fantasy series Heart of the Staff available in eBook and paperback formats available to purchase.Tom and I spent the lion's-share of our teaching careers in the Southwest U.S. (Arizona, New Mexico and Nevada) on different Native American Reservations. I believe we learned as much from our students as they did from us and a large number of them became the first dedicated fans of our stories. We are currently full-time writers. Not long after Tom and I married, I discovered to my joy, that he, too, loved to write. We have been writing together ever since. We are currently working on the 5th book in our epic fantasy series, Heart of the Staff, and have already completed the first four books. We expect to complete the saga with another one or two books. The first four books of this series are: Good Sister, Bad Sister, The Collector Witch, Stone Heart and The Burgeoning. We hope to publish the 5th book sometime in January 2013.

The Burgeoning Evalynn Tsosie In The Burgeoning, the forces of

    The Burgeoning
    Evalynn Tsosie

In The Burgeoning, the forces of good are losing and falling back in the face of Spitemorta and Demonica's evil vanguard. Spitemorta's husband, King James of Loxmere, discovers that she is an evil sorceress and sends his first steward Lance off to someplace unknown to hide their son, Prince Abaddon from her vile influence. Spitemorta tortures James on the rack and locks him in the rotten blackness of the dungeon of Castle Goll. Demonica sends a hoard of trolls to destroy the castle of Olean Gairdin, sending the Elves fleeing to the Wilderlands as Spitemorta makes plans to destroy Niarg.

The authors manage their characters exceptionally well in this book, just as they have in everything of theirs which I've read. Their personalities are fascinating, believable and well developed, whether antagonist or protagonist. Lance hides Prince Abaddon in the lava tubes under Mount Bedd and asks the three green haired Fairies who raised him there if they could possibly undo the evil done to Abaddon by Spitemorta. These Fairies speak Archaic Modern Niarg, which any collegiate English major will recognize at once as Middle English, with all of the obsolete vocabulary removed. When I decided to read The Burgeoning aloud to one of my classes, following the rules of pronunciation in the glossary, a girl blurted out, "Hey! Are you a witch? That's obviously a foreign language, but I can understand every single word of it."

And as it is in their previous writing, their story is a most absorbing adventure to read, with their descriptive snippets supporting it perfectly, instantly forming engaging and wonderfully idyllic images in the mind's eye of the reader. I want this tale to go on forever. They have two more books in the series coming.

True to form, for me, this book was equally as entertaining, captivating, and as addictively hard to put down as with each of the previous books in the Heart of the Staff series. I have been so caught up in reading this series and keeping up with each twist and turn of the characters lives, always looking forward to what new adventure will happen next to each character on the next page or in the next chapter. When I reached the end of this book however, I immediately thought, OMG...Oh Noooo! The cliffhanger ending has left me with a feeling of withdrawal. I am hooked and can't wait for the next book in this series to be released.
